I had a microdiscetomy this week, where they trimmed off the herniated portion of a disk between L3 and L4. Has anyone else had a similar procedure done? I am worried about ever playing golf again, but my main concern is just living a normal life. If there are any fellow GRWers out there who have had surgury, I would love to hear about the outcomes, both good and bad.
The immediate concern is to get back to walking without leg pain, but I REALLY want to be able to play golf again.
I have had that done, and a disk replaced... after 6 monthes i was good as new, still race motorcycles, box, and play gold every time i can.. just listen to the doc's on the recoverly and start doing some exsersizes..
Thanks Grant. I need that to look forward too. It's getting depressing laying around, even if I am taking percosets and valium. So how did you have a disc replaced? I thought that wasn't approved yet in this country. Was it a cervical or lumbar?
I had back surgery in Dec 04 and Jan 07. The first involved stenosis in the lower back ((S1 - L3). It took me away from golf for six months (had a shoulder rebuilt in Feb 05). Made a complete recovery and played with some success in competition during most of 2006. Then had the second back problem and my game is still fine, but no more competition. Hope you make a complete recovery that lasts for a loooong time.
Good for you. I will not have a fusion, ever. You lose too much mobility. My surgeon told me the replacements were not covered by insurance and were about 40K apiece.
