Practicing with different shoes.

I have had this burning question for the past couple of days now so I hope that someone could answer it for me please.
Does it hurt or benefit your game at all to practice with golf shoes rather than just sneakers? Maybe I am one of the only ones who practices with something other than golf shoes but could the difference in traction from each trip actually cause a problem? I practice almost everyday with just shoes that I have on and I slide a bit, but when I put on the shoes I grip the ground which can throw me off at first. I practice a lot more than I play due to transportation and Financial reasons (I am on 16) so could having the traction and grip of sneakers hurt my game when I switch to my golf shoes for a round?

Re: Practicing with different shoes.

I practice in my golf shoes if possible just because I want things to be exactly the same as they are when I'm on the course.

In general, if you aren't slipping around in your tennis shoes, there probably isn't a whole lot of difference.

Re: Practicing with different shoes.

I rarely go to the range with my spikes. But, I make sure the shoes I'm wearing have decent traction.

I think it depends more on the particular person and their swing. If you're the type of golfer that swings very, very hard, and you need to control your feet, wear your spikes. Otherwise, whatever's whatever.

Saying that the difference can throw you off at first, you answered you own question, IMO. It does matter! Start practicing in your golf-shoes, or playing in your sneakers! The first option is preferred, because sliding isn't desirable.

I have seen good golfers hit great shots in flip-flops at the range, but much more often I see lesser golfers with useless 'summer-footwear' and it seems that they haven't got a chance to hit a good golf-shot because of it.

The first group can play in any footwear because they are able to swing in balance, without putting much stress on their feet. They might practice in less than ideal footwear, to ensure that they make a smooth in-balance swing.

The second group need all the help they can get to keep themselves planted.

Long story short: If you find yourself sliding, you need shoes with better traction.

yea, i suppose I did lol. I think I might go to the range with spikes now because my game needs all the help it can get at the moment, and you know what they say "practice like you play"

Re: Practicing with different shoes.

I like visuals. Look at this guys left foot. He'd be on his butt on the cover of his own book if he hadn't been wearing spikes.

In all seriousness: Golf shoes are probably the most important equipment in the game of golf. I know you can't hit a ball with them, and that they aren't the ball, but then again, I have never heard anyone complain after the purchase of some quality golf shoes (or a quality golf bag, for that matter).

If at all possible, practice like you play ...why would you do it any other way?
