fighting the heat

lately i have to wait till 6pm to go to the range or always have tee times at 7am because the heat and humidity is aggravating. i don't know where you guys reside but i live in south carolina and i use to live in new orleans and for some reason it's more hot here than it is in new orleans. what do you guys do to fight the heat? i heard that under armour could help.

I live in Az. Lots of heat but low humidity. I use a wet towel around my neck and take it off periodically and either rewet it or spin it around over my head. Also, you may try to wet your golf shirt. Wearing a sweatband can help alot also, but looks kinda funny.

Re: fighting the heat

It's hot and humid here all the time...my course is walking only, no golf carts...you just deal with it, drink lots of water and take extra gloves, shirts and towels...

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Light colored shirt, shorts and a good sunscreen. If the pace of play permits, a two minute rest break on a tee side bench every 3 holes helps, also.

Re: fighting the heat

I drink alot of water and some gatorade as well. The course I play has coolers and usually fill them up with extra ice and soak a towel. The heat is annoying. Its nice to
play and not sweat like a pig.

Re: fighting the heat

I always play with either a buddy from work or my brother, so I've been trying to convince them to buy this: It's a Breeze - Golf Cart Portable Fairway Fan

... but they just turn around and tell me they'll buy it the day after I buy a GPS. It's a stalemate I don't see going anywhere any time soon

Columbia is especially bad for SC; it sits in that bowl of hot humid stale air. I have to work there on and off and can empathize with you.

I live in FL. It's hot and humid and I play in the heat of battle. :)

I have a towel that I wipe my arms, face and neck, constantly.

I wear microfiber shirts (it doesn't have to be "under armour" - Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Callaway, Nike and PGA tour make microfiber shirts) and lightweight pants. Do not wear conventional pique cotton - it doesn't breathe as well.

I drink 500cc's of bottled water every 1 - 2 holes. I avoid alcohol which makes me heat up anyways. Caffeinated drinks only dehydrate you.

I have a Nike Dri Fit hat (white).

I wear light colored clothing.

Re: fighting the heat

My tee times are always between 6:30 and 7:30am and we're done by 11;30am, so we miss most of the bad heat. Here in Connecticut the humidity gets pretty bad and it can get into the 90s. I don't mind the heat - in fact, I like it. I too, wear light colored clothing and use a cold wet towel to help with the heat, but for the most part, I just deal with it.

Re: fighting the heat

I traditionally have been an all cotton person, but , this year I got the microfibre shirt, shorts and even the underware and what a difference. Alot of water also helps.
