I was told a few days ago that if you constantly leave your clubs in your car during really hot days that it tends to hurt the glue that holds your clubhead to your shaft.

Anyone ever heard that?
It's bogus. Been discussed before, if not here then on other golf forums. No way the temperature in your car can get high enough to affect the epoxy that is used to hold the clubhead to the shaft. that takes more than 400 degrees, and if you car got that hot, you wouldn't even be able to get into it. The interior of your car doesn't reach more than about 180 max.... if it got to 212 it would boil water.... ever see that?????
I leave my clubs in the trunk year round, and when I used to have a Toyota station wagon I left them in the back with the direct sun baking through the windows. Never had the heads fall of my clubs, and here in Colorado, the sun is serious stuff.
If a clubhead comes off, it's because it wasn't attached properly in the first place.
Re: Question about leaving your clubs in your car?
I have heard of it. I don't leave mine in the car, not because of the clubhead-shaft connection, but because I don't want the grips to dry out. That fear may very well be bogus also.

Before I started playing seriously, I left my first set that I used maybe 5 times a year max in the trunk 365 days a year. The grips did start to get hard and lose tackiness.
But,if you give the grips a little TLC, they bounce right back. Once I chose to got serious about the game, I played that same set of clubs for about a year until I got a more customized set. I cleaned the grips up with some Westleys Bleche-Wite tire cleaner. Tires are rubber, the grips are rubber... and the stuff really works. I didn't actually remember what the grips felt like new, but they were much softer and tackier again.
I still use the Bleche-Wite after every 10 or 15 rounds with my current grips. The cleaner does make the grips feel like new every time.
I think that any good tire cleaner of the black of the tire should work. Don't use something like Armour All, though. You don't want your grips shiny and slick. I also hear that this doesn't work so well for Winn and Winn-like grips.
Finally, I don't leave my clubs in the car, not for any real long-term damage to them, I just don't want to have to worry about someone breaking into the car and taking them. I don't think that there is much risk -- I don't live or work in a bad neighborhood or anything -- but I'd just rather not have to worry. It is a piece of mind thing as much as anything.
Re: Question about leaving your clubs in your car?
For years my clubs were always in my trunk as I played different circuits and courses. This is bogus and I never had my grips dry out.
What I will say to be careful about is when you wash your clubs. We used really hto water when I was a kid working at a Country Club to wash the clubs. Soaking them in that really hot water will wear down the glue. I have had a few heads fly off my old Clevelands during the years and knew that was what did it. Still liked my clubs nice and clean though so no biggie and I worked at a course and did club repair so wasy fix for me.
Re: Question about leaving your clubs in your car?
Where I live and have lived anything that gets left in the car is going to get stolen sooner or later...just be careful who sees what you have inside...too many sad stories that I have read and heard...
Re: Question about leaving your clubs in your car?
I understand the temperature doesn't get to 400*, but continually stayin in 150* 6 months out of the year or however long it is CAN'T be good for the epoxy. Epoxy has a temperature where it starts to break down and eventually can fail. Constant continual heat can't be good for them. I don't leave mine in there unless I absolutely have to.

All I can say is that in 30 years of leaving my clubs in the car, I've never had a head fly off, nor has it ever noticeably shortened the life of my grips. I don't have to regrip any more often than guys I know who keep their clubs in the house. I've built my own clubs and I've used name brand OEM clubs, and neither has ever suffered from the summer heat. Tomorrow is forecast to be 100 degrees... My clubs will be used in a tournament, then back in the trunk....
Re: Question about leaving your clubs in your car?
Very often I'll walk 9 immediately after work so the clubs stay in the trunk. I believe the big swings in temperature (60s at night, 90s day) probably ages the grips at a faster rate than at idle; how much would depend on a lot of variables.

Well with me I kept them in the dining room. Actually I still have my spare clubs in the dining room & the sets I really should sell on are in the cupboard under the stairs..
I keep my main set in the car simply for convinience, which is rreally convinient until we need to go do the weekly food shop..
