The "nail in the coffin"

Was partying on Saturday, had my flip-flops on, stepped on a 2x4 that had about a 5'' nail sticking out of it. After the doctor gave me some bad news (light nerve damage, tissue damage) looks like i'll be on the shelf for at least 2 weeks.*

Anyone else involved in a freak accident before that put em on the shelf?

Re: The "nail in the coffin"

Stood on an old rusty six inch nail whilst wearing trainers many years ago, whilst in my early teens, went in a long way, was quite an odd experience seeing a large nail in my foot & one of those odd experiences, the sort where everything goes into slow motion. Much like when I had the bad accident when I broke my wrist that time.

Remember vividly removing my foot from the rusty nail very slowly, yet after the initial pain, was more of a numb feeling removing it from the nail, could feel how rough it was but the pain seemed to not be there. Was rushed to the hospital in the car Given a Tetinus injection, its also odd how rapidly it healed up afterwards. Not sure how it would If I were to do the same all these years later, but sympathy goes Golfguy1874, get well soon.

Done the very same thing several times myself. Usually heals up very quickly though, so it's not too bad.

Re: The "nail in the coffin"

Have had several weird occurences on the course in my younger days: slipped while swinging too hard at a drive and fell back onto a large tee marker, spraining my neck (out four weeks); and, had the shaft on my driver break in the grip slicing my right palm (out two weeks). Thankfully those were many years ago and I take smoother swings with the driver now. About six years ago I was playing in a tournament in Canada and stepped in a hole while walking through the rough after a recovery shot on the fifth hole, suffering a partial tear of my left achilles tendon. Rested it for awhile, but it took nearly six months before it was back to normal.

Re: The "nail in the coffin"

Not too long ago, Jan 28th in fact, I was playing basetball as I had been doing every Monday. Felt great all night, jumped off the ground patella tendon snapped and kneecap was dislocated. Had to have surgery a few days later and then stay off of it for the next 2 months. The worst part was I was supposed to leave for a golf trip to myrtle beach 2 weeks after the injury.

Re: The "nail in the coffin"

RIght before starting my first season with my college DIII team as a walk on (which after this injury, I never did end up playing for) I broke my ankle (basically seperated my foot from my leg haha) in a pickup football game with some high school buddiies. I was on crutches for three months, and still have a metal rod in my ankle, that was my "nail in the coffin."

Re: The "nail in the coffin"

I can't believe the timing of this thread. I teach, off for the summer, cater at the course - free golf. I broke a plate two Friday ago, picked it up with my left hand, felt the cut. The cut was about 1/16" above where a ring would sit on the inside of your hand. The cut bleed for 2 days, I didn't need stiches but the finger was stiff and swollen for a full week (I played three days and scrambled one night). I know I should have seen a doctor but herein lies the sickness - I was afraid it would ruin the last three weeks I have left to golf this summer! Fortunately, I am healing well but it was a little scary.

Re: The "nail in the coffin"

This is a freak accident that happened quite a few years ago. I was walking to work in downtown Chicago when I saw an attractive lady walking the opposite way on the other side of the street.

I continued to watch her as she past me so I was turned away from the direction I was traveling but still walking nonetheless. What I failed to realize was that my path had swerved toward the curb.

When the object of my gaze had traveled too far for me to continue to gawk, I started to turn back in the direction of my travels. Little did I know was that I walked right into the path of a "no parking" sign. I literally turned my head, at full stride, right into the pole of the sign.

I saw stars and immediately went to my knees. The sign itself was waggling back and forth making enough noise so anyone within a block could see the fool that just walked right into a street sign.

To this day, if I play or practice too much, I still get neck pains from that incident. My wife is always quick to remind me of the reason...
