teeing area rule....

well i was playing at a local junior club tournament. i tee'd my ball up on the 10th tee and one of my playing partners said that i wasnt allowed to stand ahead of the tee boxes. My ball was still within the box, but my left foot was ahead of it. I disagreed with him,, but still moved my ball back to just have not a problem and did that for the rest of the round. I had my rule book handy and looked it up. it didnt really explain anything about it that i could notice. could someone help me out there?

thanks alot!

nick.

Re: teeing area rule....

As long as the ball was in the designated area, you were all right. He didn't know what the heck he was talkin bout. You also can go 2 club lengths back also. If you want to tee the ball up all the way to the left and have your ball set directly to the right of the tee marker and the tee marker between your feet and the ball your still fine. I think he was just playin ** head games!

That seems pretty clear to me. You can stand anywhere you want, all that is important is that your ball is in the teeing ground, not you.

Re: teeing area rule....

You can tee your ball up just inside the tee marker and stand completely outside of it if you want. You can straddle the front or the back edges as long as the ball is teed within the teeing ground. Note the last sentence in Rule 11-1:

Quote:
11-1. Teeing

When a player is putting a ball into play from the teeing ground, it must be played from within the teeing ground and from the surface of the ground or from a conforming tee in or on the surface of the ground.

For the purposes of this Rule, the surface of the ground includes an irregularity of surface (whether or not created by the player) and sand or other natural substance (whether or not placed by the player).

If a player makes a stroke at a ball on a non-conforming tee, or at a ball teed in a manner not permitted by this Rule, he is disqualified.

A player may stand outside the teeing ground to play a ball within it.
