Short Game Practice Area in Long Island?

I remember seeing a few folks on here that are from the Long island area. Anyways, I'm looking for a place to practice my short game in Nassau County. It has to be a public area as I don't belong to a private course and wouldn't be able to financially.

I know Eisenhower Park has that little sand trap and horrible putting green where they give the little kid lessons. I also know that semi-private club in Happaugue has a short game area but that is kind of a hike for me. I'm looking more in Nassau County.

For now I sometimes practice chipping and pitching in my yard but my wife does not like the look of our lawn (can't say I blame her).
