Mike Austin

I'm not sure that your heading gives an accurate idea of the topic here, but the article about Mike Austin's 515-yard drive in competition was really something. And believe me, I can relate to his putting woes. Yesterday I was just killing the ball off the tee, but my shots into the green and my putting were pathetic.

I just love long hitters. It's hard to believe that he was 64 when he uncorked that drive. I guess that there's still hope for us older guys after all.

Ihaverangeballs,

Entertaining article, it reminds me of my feisty old grand dad! He never hit the ball 500 yards, but one of his favorite lines (when I finally started to out drive him) was "It's not how far.....it's how often." It took me a long time to finally understand that he was right.

"Last year," Austin says, down but undaunted, "I hit a seven-iron one-handed, backhanded. It went 147 yards."

Great stuff from a feisty 94 year-old man.

Studio City. LOL

I learned to golf on their par 3 course and still hit balls on the range there.

515 yards, darn that is a whack and a half there.....i think they said Tiger hit one 415 during practice at the British Open and that was the furthest of the pros for that day but man another football field on top of that is just insane!!!

I live in VV now! Right off Whitsett. I'm gonna hit balls there tonight.

Buddhist Priest (from this forum) is in LA. We're gonna try to play on the weekend. Wanna make it a 3-some?

A real course though. I'm well over hitting my wedge off the matt. I'm a grass snob. That's one reason I miss Texas. The practice tee is always grass and they usually sell beer.
