I'm so excited about this, i played in the under 15 county qualifying today, which is a 5 man team from each county in ireland, and i qualified for my county!!
shot a 78 gross round a par 71 course! played good golf.
looking forward to the county match on august 5th now!
Congratulations, Gaz! That's really terrific.........Guess you've been playing since the age of 3? Anyway,,,good for you...bet your folks are very proud!
i've been playing seriously for just over a year. first hit a club when i was about 8, then stopped to play football(soccer). i started getting into golf again when i was 12, and started playing seriously about a year ago when i was 14.
thanks for the comment, and yeah, my folks are proud! :)
Good job man. I guess i did kind of the same thing. I qualified for my zone for the Provincal summer games for under 18 i think it is. We have a 4 man team and some solid golfers are on my team.
played the match today, the way it worked was there was 5 people on each team, and gross scores counted, all 5 were added up.
well, to say the least, my county played terrible! i was the only one on the team to break 80, and i shot a 79. the rest of the team played terrible, and i should have been much better, bogied the last 3 holes!
no they take the total of all 5 scores, always have done, i think its to make sure that every member of the team plays well.
well two guys had 84's, another one had an 89, and some other guy (who i didnt even know was playing :S) had an N/R, he was playing so bad he walked off after the 17th hole.
why would he quit atfer 17 holes? what a awful thing to do, at least finish out your round....i hav had days liek that where i feel like leaving and then the next hole i hit a shot 4 feet from the pin and WOW i am all better!!!
yeah i thought that too, actually thought it was quite rude to leave when it was a team competition, and all scores counted.
i'm not gonna lie and say ive never walked off a golf course in my life because i have, but only in individual competitions, where my score didn't influence a team result.
yeah to give up on the last hole is just rediculous....i have even finished my rounds in the pouring rain just to get my score and go home and put it into my progress charts to see where i am at......

I have done that too, i also like seeing how my stats compare when i am playing in pouring rain compared to perfect and compared to super windy.
I have had people on my high school team quit after 9 holes of an 18 hole event for our high school regional championchip (winners move on to provincals) and it was in late sepetmber one year and the temperature was hovering close to zero with the wind chill. We had people in touqes and ski gloves and winter jackets, i think out of like 70 some golfers there was like 13 finish 18 holes or something like that. (i honestly did not blame my team for quitting, i just thought i better finish because it may have been mylast round of the year, turned out good anyways, i shot 83 or 4 and won)
