How many mulligans do you take in a round?

I try not to take any, but the most I will ever take in a round is one.

All my great rounds are legit though. You know why? WHEN I'M HITTING THE BALL, I DON'T NEED TO TAKE A MULLIGAN!!!

Of course, I will never take a mulligan in a tournament (that's cheating of course).

So call me anything you want. Cheater, hacker (which I happen to be...), duffer (I prefer the term "teenaged duffer"), or even the dreaded "threat to golf humanity" statement, but the fact is, I take my mulligans rarely and when I have to, I'm honest about it.

How about you guys?

Just don't post your score for your handicap either. That would be cheating also. Once you take a mully your round is practice unless you record the score properly.

When I record my score, I always add a two-stroke penalty on any hole that I took a mulligan on (which is the proper thing to do by the way). This way my handicap stays fresh and I know that in the end, I have done the right thing.

Then you did the right thing, it is not called a mulligan at that point. Good job!

I always take mulligans. But i don't use the ball, i just hit another ball and then go pick it up and use my ball i hit first. I just like trying things to see what i did wrong, only way to get better. Today i hit 3 balls on one hole cause no one was behind us and i just wanted to see why i hit a fade when i wanted a draw.

Never take a mulligan, myself. Main reason is that I've gotten into the habit of playing by the rules (I can thank my golf league for that). Other reason is that, although I'm a bogey golfer, I can almost always put the ball in play somewhere. Probably won't be getting a GIR anyway!

I'm proud that in golf, "we play our foul balls." I think some famous golfer defended golf that way to some famous baseball player.

I've been getting alot better at keeping it to one or less. And that's mostly just first tee jitters. Occasionally if a round is going particularly rough and there's room on the course, I'll hit another, but still usually take the first. Playing with friends sometimes we'll get a little more lenient, just so everyone can try to stay in a bit of a good mood, but for the most part its getting more and more straight up all the time!

Do not take any, each time out I try to better my score from the last time out. If I was to start to taking mulligans then I feel I'am not making an effort to improve my game. I think the only true way to track improvement is to play your bad shots along with the good.

I don't take mulligans. I do hit provisionals, though but they don't count. Not that I'm a totally true golfer. I do "roll" the ball to a better lie as a previous thread covered at times.

There is usually too much money riding on the games I have been playing to allow mullies. Actually the last couple of years I have been playing a little more seriously trying to play to the book. In all honesty it is a funner game this way, even without any money changing hands.

I have never taken a Mulligan but sometimes if the course is clear i will tak e a "revisional" ball i think it is called off of the tee.....i will hit one and not so good so i will try to hit another and play the best one, i think that is what it is called right? And is that ok to do or do i have to take a stroke for that too.???

It is called a provisional and if you play it the first ball is deemed lost, therefore the penelty is stroke and distance. If it was your tee shot you would be laying 3.

I never take a mulligan. However, sometimes I do hit a second tee shot and not use the second. I do this if I had a less than perfect tee shot. Case in point, when I played a few days ago with my boss, who got his first hole in one, I had a bad tee shot on #8 in the rough, 135 to the pin. Hit a second tee shot and drove the green. I of course did not use the second, and played the first with a great lob wedge over a bunker and within 15 feet of the pin. Missed the birdie.
