It is a good one, read about it in the magazine, but it is not recognized by the USGA, so the handicap you get from it would not be allowed in some tournaments. Hope this helps.

Yes it is definately good enough for you and your buddies to use for your own private games. If you want to use a better one, which really doesn't mean it's better only sanctioned, go to the USGA website and join, or join the GHIN at one of the courses you currently play. They usually charge about $10.00/mo. for the service.

ok that sounds good to me, yeah i might get the reduced fees membership at my home course and they do a free handicap for ya on that plan and i figured it pays fo ritself in only 6 or 7 rounds so maybe i will just let them do the dirty work....

ok one more question, it says i am a 37 and i think that is as high as you can go right? maybe i am wrong but i did my buddies and it aslso came out to a 37 and he shoots way higher than me!!!

I always thought 36 was as high as you can go, might be different once you are outside the USGA sanctioned systems. Don't know for sure but I'll bet somebody in here has the correct answer.

36.4 is the highest handicap index a man can have. Depending on slope, course handicap can be different.

The highest for women is 40.4 and occasionally, the man's limit will be lifted if he is a REALLY BAD GOLFER...(in my club, there is an 86-year-old man with a 40.4 but plays to about a 50)

Anyway, apparently, my handicap (to the minute) is 22.1 according to your calculator...so I am improving since my official index is 22.3...
