Ok i took advice form a few of you and booked a 1 hour lesson today to get ahold of my game before it gets ahold of me.....
He had asked me what i wanted to work on and i basically told him i have been playing for a year so i wanna go over the basices from grip, stance, ball placement, etc.......
Well i hope this helps me hit the ball more consistently especially since i am playing with my brother in law on saturday and he is pretty good, woudl love to stay close with him........
I am leaving work in about 30 minutes from now so I am very excited to say the least.........
You're starting out on the right foot by getting professional help early. Let us know how the lesson went and what your thoughts are about your "first time."
Practice what the pro teaches you and remember that after a lesson it will usually get worse till you master what the pro has tried to fix in your swing.
ok all it was great, we only did 30 mins. the first time as he suggested.....
well at first he told me to just hit about 5 balls with my club of choice so of course i grabbed my trusty 7 iron and ripped 5 good ones out there pretty straight and all about 145-150....
so he asks me how long have i been playing and if i had anyone teach me or had any lessons and he was shocked he said because it seemed like i had a lot more good things going on in my swing than bad, that made me feel good....
the biggest problem he said was that i slide my hips back and forth instead of turning with my shoulders.....
2nd biggest problem was to just relax with the club and not grip it and rip it.....and also to hinge my wrist at the top of my backswing (this was the biggest help with power)
3rd was my setup, i was putting everything right in front of me and not putting my hands in front of my club head....also learned to put the ball under my logo...
well needless to say after these three thing and about 3 or 4 swings now i can hit my 7 about 155-160, that is about 10 yards better, i am also swinging slower and getting better loft so it is going much further.....
now he wants to see me again in about 10 days so i have time to work on it tomorrow at the course so i hope it goes well, i think it will because i picked it up so fast.....
after my lesson he told me to rip the rest of the balls out there and i have to be honest that about 90% of them were great and only a few mishits but they still went straight....
ok now to the driver situtation, he told me to do everything else the same except put the ball on the toe of the driver and relax my hands, now i have never been able to even hit the driver at all, maybe an occasional hit here and there but not straight or long at all, well after about 3 swings i started to rip them out there not too far maybe 200 yards but that is longer than i have ever hit it, and it was the best feeling to finally be able to hit it so i might actually try my driver tomorrow.......
gotta love that sound off of the titanium driver, PING!!!

Great report, JT! It sounds as if you've got a good base to build on and a good teacher. I say ditto to what ForgedRbest told you earlier. Try not to expect too much too soon. It's a process and will take time. You have a great attitude, very refreshing to read your stuff. Keep up the good work!
Sounds like things are working out for you. Don't get discouraged if you hit a little bump in the road, just work through it. Good luck against the brother-in-law. My wifes brother consistently beats me, so it is very satisfying to get the better of him every now and then. Have a good weekend.
Thanks for the update, Jay. It sounds like the session with the pro was helpful.
The right teaching pro can make a world difference in your game if you consistently implement what he teaches you. I'm really happy that things are going well. Good luck Saturday, but don't press too hard or Mr. Tension will get in the way.
ok all it is working well now, saturday it didn't go so well but i was forgeting to relax my arms and grip but yeterday (played hookie!!!) it was working great, i can even hit my 3 and 4 irons great and far, never could get them straight or even long but yesterday they were just fabulous if i do say so myself!!!
i feel i am on my way to breaking 100 soon, 107 yesterday but i felt very confident in my swing, very confident!!!
another bit of advice, dont go to a different pro for more lessons, stick with the one you are getting lessons from at the minute.
yeah i had a question about that, i went to this guy basically becasue the place i wanted to go couldnt fit me in but they are more expensive 45 for 30 mins vs. 35 for 30mins., if i were to switch should i do it now befroe i get to involved with tis other guy or just stick it out and stay with him? he is closer and a package was 306 for 8-30 minute sessions, which i think is pretty good...
thw worst possible thing to do it see two different pros at once, as every pro has a different style of teaching. how many lessons have you had with this guy? if its more than 2 or 3 i'd say stick with him, as going to another would just confuse you!
i did it last year, it i was stupid to say the least. i get a lesson about once a month now, from the same pro. and ive been going to him for about 7 months, with no intention of changing.

yeah i only have seen him once but i think it beeing closer and easier it is well worth the extra money and he is younger so i can relate ti him very well......he also said after i start to improve and get below 100 consistently he wants to go play a round with me for no charge and help me with my on course game vs. the range, i thought that was a very cool gesture!!! nice guy and vey good, he already has me hitting it straighter and about 10-15 yards further on all my clubs!!!
he said he would take you out for a round free of charge?? thats surely gotta be a selling point! thats a superb gesture from him! many pros are just concerned with getting their students money, but this one sounds genuinely interested in your golf game!

thats a rarity!
yeah i think i will return the gesture and pay for his round!
yeah he is about the same age as me maybe a little younger but we started talking and we had a few things in common, he had a football scholarship and got injured and lost his chance to play for Syracuse and i had a basketball scholarship to Colorado University but got injured and they took it way from me but anyways i think i am gonna stick with im and just go with it and see if i can improve!!!
