My fellow golf members from the Gulf States, please stay tuned into the news channels and stay safe. Hurricane Ida is supposed to hit the Gulf States and especially hit the panhandle of Florida hard. They say it is progressing rapidly, so please be careful and do what you need to do to remain safe and sound.
Looks like Pensacola is in the cross-hairs again. We survived Ivan in 2004 (barely), Dennis and Katrina in 2005. We're watching, closing the storm shutters and checking the emergency supplies. Just hope this is mostly a rain event. Thanks for your concern. If the power stays on, I'll give an update tomorrow and another on Tuesday. And I'm playing with a group of fellow geezers at NAS Pensacola tomorrow morning - - - maybe.
Hey, Billy - you ever see one of the novelty balls at the golf shop, the ones with the snorkel, mask & flippers? You might want to invest in a couple if you're serious about golfing on Tuesday.
Minimal damage with lots of heavy rain, some coastal flooding and a bit of wind so far. The effects are expected to last another day as Ida is forecast to turn east in another 12 hours.
Good news Billy! God Bless and good luck on the course! Enjoy the nice weather, because up here in Indy, I got my last round in this past week I think. I may try to get one more round in this weekend. Hopefully the weather is on my side!
We got hit pretty hard here in Tidewater , Va. A lot of flooding in the downtown areas of Norfolk, Portsmouth. Gusts of winds 50-70 mph. Over 9 in of rain in a lot of areas. I guess I am pretty lucky, only lost electricity for about 1 1/2 hrs . A lot of people had water damage to their homes.
Beach erosion was pretty severe on the outer banks and Sandbridge areas.
To DougJ - I watched The Weather Channel regularly to keep up with it's effects in the tidewater area. It looks like you went through quite a lengthy storm. How did your home and home course stand up? And others in the around you?
My home came out of it w/no damage. I lost some shrubs in the back yard. I had friends who live near the Elizabeth river who had some water damage . You are right about the storm being long term. It seemed to linger off the coast causing a lot of abnormal high tides. Talking to various people who received water damage the water levels were above what we experienced with Hurricane Isabel in 2003.
