Required Reading

I know the Hogan book is required reading for those wishing to learn the game of golf. Any other books that are "must reads"? I'm looking for reading material that covers topics like the swing, faults and fixes, drills, course management, the psychology of golf.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I'd recommend GOLF MY WAY by Jack Nicklaus. How can you go wrong reading a book by the greatest player who ever lived? (so far ;) )

Yes the Hogan primer is good. I think reading Harvey Penick's books will not only give you a better understanding of the swing/game but also a better appreciation for it, too, regardless of your experience. They are an easy read and every time I go back through one of them I find some subtle something that really rings true.

I've gotten the following books from my local library (or have them on hold for me):

"Little Red Book" - Harvey Penick (overall game of golf)
"Golf Digest Ultimate Drill Book" - Jim McLean (drills - my golf pro recommended it)
"Strategic Golf" - Tom Watson (course management)
"On Golf" - Jim Flick (overall game of golf)
"Golf Is Not A Game Of Perfect" - Robert Rotella (psychological side of golf)

I have read great reviews on many of them on Amazon. Any thoughts? Other good books about aspects of the game I have not included here (I already have the Hogan book for my swing)?

To CybrSlicr: Your list of books, plus the Hogan book (I assume you mean Five Lessons) looks good to me!

To everyone who's working 40+ hrs/wk: Don't hate CybrSlicr just because he's got a summerful of golfing and reading.

The Hogan book is the "Five Lessons" - great book!

I work 40+ hours per week, play softball on Wednesdays and Friday evenings, golf on Sat and Sun, and still manage time with my family. The reading is for the late evening hours at home once the kids have gone to bed.

It's not as hard as it sounds because my wife and 9-year-old both play golf. When I go to the range, we all go. One of my rounds a week is usually with them (we bring my 4-year-old with us to ride along - she has her own clubs, so she swings when she feels like it). It is non-stop, but I love it.

Not the technical side of the game, I just finished reading A Good Walk Spoiled and have now started on Caddy For Life.

Just wanted to tip you guys off on another thread similar to this posted earlier:

Favourite Golf Books

I just finished reading "Who's Your Caddy." I found it entertaining but it also offered a glimpse into a part of golf not usually covered. The author, I believe his name is Rick Reilly? caddied for guys like Casey Martin, John Daly, Donald Trump and an LPGA Tour player. I definitely would recommend it to anyone who can't get enough of golf.
