If you could build the ultimate golfer, which parts of golfer's games would you pick from anybody in history?
I've only been around in the modern era and so older golfers don't really come into my choices!
I would have Ernie's swing and Driving ability, Tiger's Irons, Mickelson's short game, and i can't choose a putter.
Hopefully you guys can put a bit more thought and a broader choice than me!
I just said to throw in his accuracy, not mentioning anything about his length. Keep Ernie's length if you want, but the first hole-in-one I had ever seen had come from Fred
Fred Couple's swing
Scott Verplank's driving accuracy
Hank Kuehne's dirving distance
VJ Singh's greens in regulation
John Daly & Phil Mickelson's short game
Ben Crenshaw's putting
Jack Nicklaus's mental game (with Tiger as his back up)
and of course we cant forget Arnie's Army!!

Ok, Ok...but let's keep it real - one golfer per shot.
Chad Campbell off the 4 and 5-par tees. (total driving)
Nick Price off the 3-par tees.
Tiger's approaches.
Retief Goosen's putts...I swear he's better than Faxon...Crenshaw's still the putting god, tho.
Now, if we're talkin' fantasy...
Tom Watson's swing.
Fred Funk's driving accuracy...could sub Calvin Peete.
Hank Kuehne's length...although you could sub Daly, Tiger, Davis, Ernie...
Tiger's long irons.
Snead's mid-irons...could sub Irwin (I personally like Jay Haas, too.)
Mickelson' short game.
Goosen may be the best putter I've ever seen and that's saying alot since I worship Crenshaw and Faxon and let's not forget about Loren Roberts and Dave Stockton.
You'd really take Tiger's long irons over Jack's? Tiger's good but Jack was King. He had more practice!
Yeah, that's a good point...kind of embarrassed that I overlooked Jack...I don't know that I'll change my pick but Nicklaus was just as good and should at least be a sub, really he share's the spot.
Btw...Nicklaus probably comes as close as anyone to being the embodiment of the ideal golfer...even closer than Tiger, for now, that is.
I like Tiger and someday he "may" be the best ever, but for now, that title is still Jack's. The comparison's are well documented but they omit longevity. Tiger may be a better player than Jack was, but Jack found a way to win the majors. Throw in his 22 second place finishes in the majors and Tiger is not even close...yet. Jack rarely, rarely, rarely, missed a putt he "had to have" in a major and he was the greatest clutch putter of all time. Everybody is dogging Tiger about his driving but when he putts well in majors, he wins or contends.
I kinda got sidetracked there but you got me going with your right on comment about Jack Nicklaus being the embodiment of the ideal golfer.
Sergio Garcias Swing/ Mike Weirs Swing
Tiger Woods "clutch" putting and everything else/ Mental Game
Reteif Goosens Calmness.
Fred Funks Driving Accuracy
Viktor Schwamkrugs Distance (Nationwide Tour)
Tigers Long Irons (Jack maybe have been better, but i wasn't around to see it so...)
Vijay Singhs Mid-Short Irons
Phil Mickelsons Short Game/ Creativity Around the green
Loren Roberts Putting
Hank Kuehne's driving distance
Fred Funk's accuracy
Tiger's long irons
Mike Weir's short game
Tiger's recovery
Brad Faxon/Phil Mickelson's putting
Jack Nicklaus's mental game

Ditto on theses sentiments. And let's not forget what differences there are in clubs and balls today. Oh and fairway conditions and green conditions when the balls land. Jack! hands down
