Club Memberships

I was wondering what it costs to join country clubs. I'm not exactly looking now but may in a couple years. Obviously the fees will be different for each club I would just like an idea. Thanks

Re: Club Memberships

The course i am a member at cost 650$ a year plus a one time payment of 500$(stock),or you can buy a lifetime membership for 12000$+500$(stock). There is another course around here that cost 1800 a year +stock+ 40$ a month you have to spend in the club house(pro shop, snack bar).

Re: Club Memberships

The reality in Florida is you can pay any where from $1200 a year, unlimited golf, you pay the cart fee if you want one at one end of the spectrum. The other end is $75,000 or more for a top equity membership plus $500-$800 a month or more which might give you a little credit in the grill or restaurant. By the way, a cart will probably cost you extra. There are all manner of courses and prices in between.

It's like buying a house. You can find a good house for 200k in one area, or you can spend 10 million in another area and get the cheapest house in the neighborhood. Just depends on where you look and what you can afford.

Re: Club Memberships

My club is semi-private. You have to be a property owner in the development to have membership. It's open for daily greens fee play and is actually quite busy. My membership is $1800 per year for golf and $1200 for operating my golf cart while I play. These fees are rather reasonable for this area. But, the least expensive home in the development is around $250,000.

I just don't understand how the course has the nerve to charge you to use your own cart. I understand they don't make any MONEY renting you a cart when you use your own, but they don't make any money renting you SHOES when you walk either. Add in the fact that they don't have to maintain YOUR cart, and it's really noting but a big rip off in my opinion. I'm just glad I'm healthy enough to walk when I play so it's not an issue for me.

Re: Club Memberships

Some courses don't allow walkers at all...and carts damage the course, usually. Let's see...Billy pays 3 grand a year for, say, 200 rounds of golf? Fifteen bucks a round, right? Ok, 150 rounds...$20 per round. Doesn't sound like a big rip-off to me...especially on a nice course.

Re: Club Memberships

Shade. I think $1200 a year for cart rental might be a good price, depending of course on how many rounds he plays a year. Where I play they charge $15 for 18 holes for cart, so if Billy plays more than 80 rounds a year, he'd be money ahead. But that's different then charging him that much money just to use HIS own cart. That's like charging someone money to use their own golf clubs because the club doesn't make any money from their club rental program when golfers use their own sticks.

It all depends on location. Up here in Vermont the high end courses are around 100$ with cart on the weekend if your not a member, middle of the road courses about 50$.

Well, like I say, carts, whether they're theirs or yours, do damage the course and paths so that would justify some charge to repair or at least minimize the damage through course maintenance, just as green fees/membership fees go toward repairing and/or minimizing the damage that a player would do with his clubs and shoes. Green fees could be construed to be a charge to use your own golf clubs. Also, Billy didn't say where he houses his cart and whether he uses his or their electricity to charge it...if he gets a shed at the club to house and charge it then it really becomes reasonable. Personally, if they offered me the choice of using their cart or my own @ 1200 a year, I'd still choose to use my own. Now, if I was only intending to play a dozen rounds a year then it'd surely be a bone of contention...but, then, so would the membership fee, for that matter.
