Putting from the fringe count in putting strokes?

If I use a putter from the fringe/even from the fairway to get on does it count toward my overall putt stroke count?

No. It is not a putt. Think of it this way...if you hit the same shot with any other club does it count as a putt? Putts are only from the putting surface.

Another slant - after a really good chip if you tap in with your chipping iron it is counted as a putt, even though you didn't use your putter.

What if your buddy taps in your two-incher with the base of the flagstick. Is that a putt? ;)

Your buddy shouldn't even be tapping in your putt for you anyway. Do your own dirty work, and no matter how tempting it is for your partners, tell them not to tap it in for you. Or, if it's an informal little game, whatever you wanna do goes, particularly with tap-ins. Just don't try to pull that in a tournament.

at our club we have a group of heavy drinkers that call themselves the "3 putt club"
$1 for a 3 putt ....all of which goes on the bar at the end of the year .......handicaps range from 3-13 and we have small slow greens .so we aint talk millions of dollars ...
but ....they are ruthless ....putts from the fringe count as does using a putter to get under trees back into play way down a fairway somewhere .....

So, if I putt my ball off the green into the fringe, the next stroke is not a putt?
Is that called a "puttus interruptus"?

That's funny! Thanks a lot guys! Now the next time I'm trying to make a putt from the fringe I'll be thinking....."Is this puttus interruptus or puttus messed upus?" You guys are supposed to be helping my game...not giving me goofball putting thoughts!
