If you shoot in the 70s or 80s you might want to skip this post. ;)
I like to think I shoot in the high 90s, but I've actually had a lot of trouble breaking 100 this year. In fact, I just checked my records, and I HAVEN'T broken it this year. (Have had a 100, 101, 102 etc.)
Anyway, today I seem to be having an OK round...for me...this year. After the front nine, I add 'em up--50. OK, not bad...for me...this year. I had one par and made a 30' putt for birdie on a par 3.
Back nine, things still going OK. I chipped in a 75 footer for par on a par 4. After 17, I add 'em up again. I'm standing at 93, with a 381 yd 4-par ahead of me. What to do, what to do? 3-wood or 5-iron (my trusty, down-the-middle club)? Easy answer if you know me...5-iron. I hit it, not that well, but it's down the middle about 160. 220 to go, I could hit 5-wood, but not in this situation. I'd like about 80 yds left, so I hit my 140ish club, my 7 iron. I skull it, so it goes about 180, which leaves me 40 yds. Ouch. Don't like that distance, especially with a tight lie. Well, I pull out my pitching wedge and flub it. Next! 5-iron, sort of putt it and it almost hits the pin, but goes 20' by. I can 2-putt for 99...
which I did.
Man, is it unbelievable how much better 99 feels than 100?
