Golf Club or Country Club

Ok can someone help tell me the difference? I am currently looking into getting a membership where they will have a 19th hole for those beverage needs as well as a full practice facility for all aspects of the game as well as a yealry membership for the driving range so i can go hit balls at will without having to worry about $$$.....

Don't know what is in your neck of the woods, but down here it would be a private or semi private club. Many of our private clubs here have opened themselves to the general public so we call them semi's.

Here's my take on this, as I just went through this exercise, and (finally) joined a GOLF club:

http://www.americangolf.com/detail-p...urseidlist=174

GOLF Club - Golf only, plus a driving range, 19th hole, locker/shower facilities, etc. etc.

COUNTRY Club - Family oriented, with golf course, pools, perhaps tennis courts, and other activities for the family.

Your situation sounds like like mine - GOLF. I would focus on golf-only clubs, unless you have a family that would enjoy a full "Country Club' environment, while you practice/play.

Yup, that's it! I like it a lot, it's very, very quiet, since there is NOT housing developments everywhere. It's tucked into a quiet area, and there are only a few holes have have neighboring apartments or condos next to the hole - otherwise, it's like a little oasis in the city!

And..........the conditioning is great, but I can't seem to get the speed/breaks of the greens, which are "Champions Bermuda". They're DIABOLICAL! Easy 2-3 foot putts will break 6" or more! For this reason, I'm scoring well (82-85 or so), but my putting statistics stink!

I LOVE being a private club member - it's so easy to get on the course, you can take your time, and it's wonderful to be able to get on anytime without the crowds.

As long as we're on the topic...anyone have any stats or know of a source to find out the cost of joining clubs? I'm not currently in the market, but would like to one day. I know it varies tremendously on geography and other issues (type of club, etc...). I would be especially interested if anyone has any insight on clubs in the Washington DC/Baltimore area.
Thanks

Jay - you and I are alike! In fact, I had such a horrible experience (waited almost 2 hours as a single, AGAIN ) at a public course recently, I was in a terrific rush to get to the tee, and put a huge skymark on my NEW 3wood , and right then decided to join a private club.

JBob - I have never seen a single source for comparison, but you might try a google search for "Washington DC private golf club pricing", or something of that nature. But.......keep in mind that the published prices don't reflect any specials, discounts, or promotions - the club I joined lists $2500 as the initiation fee, but I got in free.

I've tried that before to no avail. It just seems as if there are no semi-private or affordable private clubs anywhere near me. I guess I'll either have to become wildly successful or move somewhere affordable.

My club is advertised as a "Golf & Country Club" but it's semi-private and executive. I'd say it's a golf club.

my family belong to eagle brook country club. since it is part of american golf we got a platinum membership which means we can play at any other american golf place for just carts fees which is nice.

http://www.americangolf.com/detail-p...idlist=172,183

theres the link

there is also another course mill creek which is close by that i can play at since the platinum. if you can find an american golf course or two that are near you doing that and the platinum membership would be cool. good luck
