Not sure which section this 'belongs' to.
David Pelz is the current guru of the short game and is quite a remarkable man who applied scientific method to studying the game and came up with some very interesting conclusions. He has coached a large number of tour players on their shortgame and putting with great effect.
He mentions '5 different games'. Basically he talks of the power swing which is useful from the tee and using long irons and fairway woods. Then he speaks of the 'finesse swing' for distance control with the short game. Then putting. Then two mental games....self control stuff, and course management stuff.
I feel that he is basically 100% correct...but....that the core of the golf swing is essentially the same no matter what the club. That is, it is rotation around a centre whilst maintaining balance and rhythm and having a sense of target and shot, whether that is visual imagery or feel.
Having said that, the 'purpose' of the swing is different in the short game as opposed to the long game..one is for relatively accurate maximum distance and the other is for highly accurate direction and distance 'control'.
What do you feel about this? Has anybody ever had lessons from Pelz or Pelz trained instructors?
