Never Happy with your score: The Grass Is Always Greener Syndrome.
I played with a guy last Sunday who shot a 71. After the round he complained about all the opportunities he had missed. He said if only he hadn't stubbed that chip on 8, and hadn't missed his approach on 11, he would have broken 70 for the first time. I guess it is human nature to not be happy with your score.
I know there are many who would love to play scratch golf.

Reason: Misspelling
This is why I think I am so addicted to the game. Even when I shot my personal best of 74, I knew I left a few shots out on the course. Even so, I was ecstatic about my 74 and couldn't wait until next time to see if I could do it again. When I shoot my usual score around 82, I always know that if I did a couple of things differently, I could be in the 70's. This is what keeps me coming back time and time again.

I guess this makes me a grade A jerk as well. I've shot even many a times and have done nothing but think about the shots that I missed and complain about it... lol

yeah but you dont publicly complain, especially when you played w/ someone you are better than.
The perfect round of golf has yet to be played by anyone at any level. Everyone of us comes off the course with "if only's". However each round consists of many lucky escapes. Usually for every 6 foot putt which lips out there's a 10 footer which falls in the side door (or other similar lucky break). That's what makes golf so great and infuriating at the same time. Sometimes you get a better score than you deserved, others it feels like you've been cheated.
me and my friend were talking about this today. I played pretty good and i said it could have been better but it could have been worse. He says you mean it could have been better right. I said yeah but it could have been worse as well. The thing i notice is people (including me) think about the shots they left out there on the course or they complain they should have made that shot etc.
Think about it from a different stand point, if you holed a 30 foot putt, what happened if that never went in? Maybe it would have went 3 feet by the hole and you wouldn't have made the come backer... Or you skulled a shot and it went in, if it missed the pin you are off the green...
I started veiwing that way recently and i do not get that thought in my mind anyways, except sometimes on the 18th or 9th hole where you know it could have been one better right there.
I used to do this all the time though, be like oh i should have made par there or i should have made that 3 foot birdie putt etc.

My regular golfing partner and I have a rule: We are only allowed to comment on our best shots during the round and how great they were. Any thing different leads to a quip such as: "Isn't it amazing. All the golfers are complaining this year". Afterwards we discuss over a beer our great shots and anything we could do to improve....without mentioning the bad shots. Makes for a very enjoyable game and little frustration. And our scores tend to improve too. Others we play golf with think we are quite 'weird'. It is good to join another group on the first tee and say: I am playing about as well as I can these days and expect to go even better. Then they think you are truly nuts!
As the man said: If you always do what you've always done, you will always keep getting what you've always got!
Stan hit it on the nose. I used to do it too...I'd shoot 73, 74 and think about all the shots I should have hit closer and the 6 foot putt I missed, etc. But I would conveniently forget about the 20-30 foot snake I holed or the chip-in or even the great recovery shot that was 80% luck. Now if I find myself thinking that way, I try to match up the ones I missed with the ones I should have and usually it balances out over the round. That's just the name of the game.
a while back i was left thinking after the round "if that eagle putt didnt stop 2 inches short , if id sunk the 3 footer on 18 , if the tee shot on 6 hadnt been skulled into the trees then the putt for par lip out and if only the 4 iron that hit the back of the 9th hole for eagle had stayed in" id have taken the course record "9 under"
funny how it works . a few 1 overs in the following weeks and now im struggling to break inside 80
crazy game .its a drug tho !
aren't 50% of the breaks one gets 'good breaks' and 50% of the breaks 'bad breaks'. nobody gets 70% bad luck and 30% good luck. we all just remember the bad stuff more. like has already been said, that's why we're golfers.....
