long drive record
I just read that the longest drive in tournament play is 515 yards by a guy named Mike Austin in a Senior PGA tourney back in '74. (Hard to believe since Tiger and Big John Daly only go about 400 on their best days.) Is that possible? Anyone ever hear of the guy?

I read somewhere that the longest recorded shot (ever) was made with a lob wedge. That's right. A lob wedge
 .It went 700-some yards. However, there's a couple catches involved. #1. The shot was hit at an elevation of 10,000+ feet (Colorado). #2. The shot bounced (downhill) off a mountain more than a few times.

I heard the same thing about Mike Austin. He had a really smooth swing and it didn't seem he could generate so much power. I still would believe that there had to by a gust of wind or something. Imagine if that guy used the today's equipment.
