Best Day Ever!!!

Well the weather wasn't looking great but I decided to squeeze another round in before it snows here in Alberta. A very rainy windy and cold day made me question my decision. But after a birdie on the first hole I felt a bit better. I never add up my score until after my complete round. I had a feeling I was going to be close to my best round of 84 (I am about a 19 handicap). Anyway after 2 birdies 10 pars and nothing over a bogey I finished up with a 76. I have counted the card over and over because I still don't believe it. I have never had a better ball striking day, not one top or pull, no penalty shots. Only 5/14 fairways, though most were a few yards off, 11/18 greens, and only 32 putts (not one 3 putt). Sorry for the long post, I thought it would be a few more years until I broke 80... just very excited

I don't want to be the one to put a damper on your great day but......you didn't break 70. You broke 80. To break 70 you have to shoot 69 or better. The way you played today....you'll be there in no time!! Great round!!

Now about that guy in your Avatar..... You had a day you'll never forget and unfortunately, so did Mr. Weir. I was almost mad at him for letting it slip away the way he did. I was pulling for him so hard and it was right there for him to take. Its a sad thing.

g'day and congratulations

That is fantastic....but...don't let it hurt your game. When I was young and learning, I had a 79 after 6 months off a 25 handicap. I played with the best players in the club that day and they took no notice of me at all. At the end the guy marking my card was like you, doiing it over and over because he couldn't believe it. I couldn't either but it was sooo easy and I couldn't wait to get back out there.

My next round was102 and I did not get back down to the low 80's for several years even though before that I was regularly scoring about 86-90.

the reason, IMHO, was that I was 'trying' to emulate that round and when it didn't come off I started 'trying harder'. As result it took me another 20 years to realise that in golf, 'trying harder' means something different from what we think it does. I hope it doesn't take you very long to see it.

Nevertheless, it does show what you are capable of if you don't 'try too hard' hey! CONGRATULATIONS

well done , maybe now you can understand that good golf is an attitude , is all about want and confidence
and is as hard as you make it
the ball doesnt go into the hole on its own - you make it
and it sounds like you sure made it happen today
shame about the coming winter aye .

Congratulations on breaking 80 (as leaguegolf pointed out) for the first time! That's funny how you didn't even add up your score until after the round was over. Sometimes it's better that way as you don't feel as much pressure. 76 is definitely a great score for a 19 handicap.

Congratulations Itsalebaron ! That's the way to go about it. Don't even think about your score until you're done. Unfortunately, my dad trained me to keep score in my head when I started (strokes over or under even 5's). I always write 'em down now, but I always know where I am anyway.

Congratulations! I hope to be where you are some day. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Thanks guys!! I started not adding up my scores until my round was complete earlier this year, and I noticed a difference in my mental game. I would recommend this to anyone to atleast try out. It helps leave behind those bad holes, or not get to cocky after the good ones so they won't affect the rest of your game.
