dont feel bad about ya 90 at rawhiti
its a goat track . piece of poop course
bad shots arent rewarded because the fairways are rubbish
putting is a lottery . greenies dont even own a roller let alone know what to do with one
Yes...the greens at Rawhiti certainly were a lot better not that long ago. I still like the course though, number sixteen is still getting the better of me , I was driving nice and straight all the way around until that hole, got it back though, over the hill on eighteen.
What a trainwreck I had today. I was playing the course nearest the college here. I met up with a couple guys who were playing the back tees (they had no reason to either, by the way). Well, I'd never played the whole course from the tips and at 7100 yards and wet fairways, needless to say I was overmatched. I was hitting the driver OK but I got no roll at all. Therefore I had a minimum of 160 yards into most of the greens as all my good tee shots were screamers that would have rolled 40+ yards under normal conditions. Plus my iron game was not sharp at all. I chipped and putted pretty decent but it only served to keep the ship from going under. I broke 100, but I was lucky that was the only thing I broke, with some of the shots I was hitting. 47 on the front, 49 on the back. Ouch.
90 today, unfortunately at a nine hole course thats rating changed my handicap from 20 (at my home course) down to 16.......all in all not a good game.
I think i have completley lost my swing latley I just cannot hit the ball where i want. Today i was aiming at a green with my 5 wood and i am like a good shot is within 5 yards of the green so i aim at the bunker which is about 20 yards from the middle of the green, i LAUNCH it, but it is the biggest pull hook in the world, i ened up right of a creek that is 25 yards right the green!! Wow was that terrible. And i could not hit the driver, big snap hooks! I am not going to post the scores cause some people would find them good and then it is awkward, but for me they are not very good.
I also have a question, is it possible to hit a hook by coming over the top? My friends have been saying my swing changed a little and they tried to show me what i am doing and they are showing that i come over the top a tad but i was thinking to myslef coming over the top produces a slice....The only thing i could think of is maybe on the back swing i am bringing it so far inside it doesn't matter how much over the top i go that i am still on an inside path, but that doesn't make much sense. I am thinking i am getting a little "sergio style swing" where he goes outside and then loops it back inside, but i think i am coming inside off the start and then this "loop" is causing me to come ALOT inside and causing pull hooks?
Anyone have any ideas, i am just going by what my friends are saying. I have NEVER seen me swing on video camera and i do not have a swing coach and my club does not even have a pro this year!!
Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks.
Junior,
Coming over the top can cause a pull hook if the club face is closed at impact. From what you have posted in here you are a pretty good golfer for your age. Might be time to talk to your folks about some lessons.
Yes you can hit a hook by coming over the top. It's just a matter of having your clubface closed at impact. That will create a shot that starts left and goes farther left. I'm no expert on it, but I know most of my pull hooks are caused by coming a little over the top.

yeah i am thinking about it, but there really isn't anyone that can give me lessons within over an hour away. I wish our club still had a pro, but i never really got serious until i guess last year and i really didn't have any "problems" i had the bad round yes, but never a consistent bad swing thing.
I have normally been able to work it out myself, but this i havent. Normally i try and work it out on my deck where we have a huge window and i can see my reflection..
At this point in the season i am not really thinking about lessons or anything because by next year i will just forget what i learned anyways. I am hoping next year i can take one once a month or so and just make sure my swing is in check.
Thanks for letting me know about how you can get a pull hook from coming over the top.
I have been trying 3 things latley.
1. Strengthening my top hand grip
2. Opening the club face a bit at impact
3. Opening up my stance (i was told i had a closed stance so i am changing that a bit)
At the beginning of the year i had trouble with a slice not with a hook, that tells my swing has been changing a bit. I like hitting a fade, i always did until this year even more of a power fade i like over a yardage enhancing slight draw.
I'll let you guys know how it is going
When my swing is on i can go low and i hit a little draw with everything, but when my swing and timing is off it is a big pull hook, so basically that shows that when my swing is on i can do good but when it is off it goes bad really quick. The thing this year i have really been trying to work on is trying to make my bad rounds be not as bad as they used to be. EX: Bad round last year was 44 or over, this year 42 or so or over on my home course. I am not particularily happy with anything over 39, but really it isn't anything to cry about.
Hopefully this gets worked out alright cause i have high school golf team try outs tomorrow, i really do not care if i make it cause the course we are going to play is where i played my worst round of the year, it is not that it is bad a course it is just that i will get it in my head and the thing will be totally mental.

That's a great goal, IMO. Too often we press ourselves to shoot great rounds. We can help our season-long performance if we focus on avoiding the disastrous rounds.
Good luck in your tryout, tomorrow. (Get some rest!) I'm thinking you might not have TWO bad rounds on that course, so the odds could be in your favor! And if you start leaking oil, just try to stay composed. It will pass. Let us know how it goes.
