played 2 different courses today & got two widely differnt scores, played a narrow & quite long parr 68 course which was suffering from stong winds due to its high exposed possition. The greens were rubbish & its the first time I've ever played there & was hitting some dreadful shots, only managed a dreadful 107. I then played my home course a much shorter 9 hole of parr 30. I was still suffering with heavy & sculled shots on occasion, but managed to birdie 2 holes & parr another 2, one of which was from a chip into the green. & although I was 4 over on the ninth I would have been able to post a 39, which is 2 shots off my best ever score there, though that best ever score did not include 2 birdies.
GR match against Jarvy5. Weekly noon game in the men's league. Not very good play overall, but barely good enough to break 80. Got on in 2 on #18 thanks to hitting concrete/rock and bouncing onto the middle of the green. :o)
Shot a 95 (my first round with my new Innovex Irons) on a course I've never played before. Beautiful course, fantastic weather, great day. That was a net 69 for me, 3 under my handicap. Shoulda been a sub-90 though, the greens had recently been pored, or cored, or whatever you call it. When they put the holes all over them and cover them with sand. They had recovered a bit but they were rediculously slow and woolly, and I couldn't make myself hit the putts anywhere near hard enough. They were going half the distance they should have been. Very frustrating. I left at least 6 putts out there, but probably quite a few more. Still, beat my Dad by 11 shots.
27 holes yesterday. 40,39,39. 2 chip-ins for birdie(that really my buddies). 7 bullets(a putt longer than the flag stick). They're worth a quarter. The chip-ins are each worth a quarter, but I had a snake(3-putt) so deduct a quarter, so each had to pay me 2 bucks, plus all the other skins which equaled $4.50. Total=$10.50. It was a good day.
I shot a 78 today (+7).... that is possibly the first time I have shot under handicap in years. It came inspite of not hitting the ball well and doubling the last.... the score came almost entirely thanks to short game.
I played in a 4 man Lauderdale today - it was odd - we start par birdie par , then reel off 7 straight birds to go 8 under thru 10 holes , then parred in for a mediocre 64. I am an A player, and my team was pretty much 3 C players, all from my company which sponsored us. I started out on fire, with 4 'natural' birdies in the first 6 holes , and 2 more in the first 8 where we used other guys drives that were very similar to mine, just in slightly better angles. But, when I cooled off, so did the team. Projecting what I would likely have shot from where I hit my shots I feel pretty sure it would have been 69 - no matter what , it was the best I have played in many moons.
played a course for the first time today. Lakeshore Golf Course in Taylorville, IL. course is very hilly and the rough is the thickest that i've seen in ages. first round since since reshafting my Launcher 460 with the ProForce V2, i had it cut down to 44" for a little more control. also my first round with my new TM V-Steel 13* strong 3W. all i can say about both of them is WOW!!!! the V2 makes my Launcher come to life. cutting it down hasn't taken away any of my distance, in fact i'm hitting it much further more consistantly (measured one at 322yds. today.... one of the longest i've ever hit) drives averaged in the 270-285 range, with the exception of that one monster. the V2 is a fairway hitting machine, went 8/14 on fairways. before i reshafted i was lucky to go 3/14 on fairways hit. the combination of my newly reshafted Launcher and the V-Steel is a par 5 killer. never been able to go for it on the 550 yarders before, today i hit a 3 wood 10yds. over the green for my 2nd shot on a 545 yarder. anyways... my iron play was pretty good, could have hit more GIR, but i'm not complaining. putting was my downfall, 33 putts, had several birdie attempts but couldn't convert. so today i shot a 84 with no birdies, as soon as i can work on my putting and get those to fall for me i'll be back to the 70s.
Vader, i would suggest that if you are leary about hitting your fairway woods either go the range ONLY with the woods and practice hitting them to get better or try a hybrid or two.
I did go and practice with the fairway woods and was doing well with the 5, still working on my stance with the 3 ( keep topping the ball ) the 3 hybrid....I'm getting may 2-3 out of 5 good shots with it...
I'm playing tomorrow and I'll be pretty much forced to use some fariway woods, hopefully the practice pay offs ( FYI, I do much better on a course than at the range, must concentrate harder )
I shot a couple of 91s the past 2 days at a par 71 layout. My putter has deserted me temporarily, though I did drain a bomb for a bird. I probably hit 10 greens over the 2 rounds, closer than the bird I made and was over par for the 10. I also had a 4 or 5 triples... there are a couple of holes where you just can't be even a bit crooked there. Pars & others... a very up & down couple of days.
