Hello all, haven't been around here in a LONG time. Mostly I've been busy with work but I've also been working hard on my game...lowered my h/c to under 2 and I plan to be a scratch golfer by the end of the summer. Also I've been blowing plenty money on new equipment....lol.
Went out to a local course today for the first time in a while and shot a -3 69 from the tips(6,634 yds). 3 birds, 1 eagle, and 1 double bogey on the 17th that killed an otherwise awesome round. Course was in ****** condition but that was a good thing today. I could fire at the pins and since the greens have been soaking from rain lately they were soft and balls would stop on a dime or spin back even.
I four putted a hole in a "major" tournament yesterday. I had 35 putts with 2 three putts and 1 four putt. These tournaments are only held once a year at each course and they really work on making the greens fast and they put the pins in tough places. This is turning into one of my favorite tournaments. I might not ever win anything in it, but I reached my goal of beating last year's 84 score with an 82 at least. ;)
Third consecutive round in the 70s today with a 79! (40/39). 9 FiR, 6 GiR, and 31 putts. The 9 fairways is kinda misleading b/c I was terrible with my driver today. A lot of those FiR were very short.
Had 3 birdies, 6 pars, 8 bogeys, and 1 double.
Ah, hit the ball terrible today (as I have for the last month or so). I started off the year with 4 rounds mid 70's and now I'm struggling for low 80's it seems every round. Everything I hit is a big ol' fade that just gets worse the longer the club (which is normal). I don't know about anyone else, but I just have a very hard time playing a fade, I've always been a person to draw the ball and I'm much more comfortable hooking than fading.
Anyway, played Kearney Hill Golf Links today in Lexington which plays about 7100 yards from the tips. Had about 25 mph wind to deal with today and shot 83. I had 3 birdies, 3 bogies, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 7 pars. These nice scores included two hosel rockets (seem to be creeping into my game lately), 4 water balls, and a lost ball, so I guess it could have been worse than 83.
I played 18 holes for free!!! There's this new golf course on the edge of town near new housing development where not too many people play, and they send out a post card for up to a 4some to play for free for the cost of your e-mail address.
It a bit harder of a course than the muni I play at. I shot a 104, even though I only lost 4 balls, as opposed to the usual 6. I 3 putted twice, which is normal for me. I felt like I played somewhat decent (2 pars) and still made a high score. I'm looking at my card to see where I went double or more and need to cut those out. I hope to post a I BROKE 90! thread on here pretty soon. My next round will be the Saturday after next.
Played last Thursday, 18 holes scored a 115, this sounds horrible, but, considering the three rounds I have played up to this point have been in order 160+, 134, 115 I seem to be improving at a pretty good rate.
Well silly sod went & played a new club in the most atrocious weather imaginable & forgot to take a pencil. The first 9 got a dreadful 59. I know I had a much better second 9 on the parr 72 course, but don't have a score for that to post.
I can't blame everything on the weather though, as I was making lots of silly mistakes & my putting was less than top form.
Played the white tees at my home course today (600 yards shorter than the usual tees I play) to try and make a run at shooting par. I ended up with a 5 over 77 (38/39). 6 FiR, 8 GiR, and 31 putts.
My ball strking was horrible, but the shorter distance allowed me to make up for it in long drives. Most of the par 4s were driver, wedge. Even then I managed to miss some of the greens from inside 80 yards.
I really enjoyed the golf late Sunday. I started at around 6:00. What a wonderful golf experience! I'm not talking about the score. It was just a perfect late afternoon of golf. The weather was spectacular with ideal temperature for golf, the course was in outstanding condition, and I had all of the time to practice chipping after each hole that I wanted. There was nobody behind me. I finished at sunset by sinking a long putt to save par from off the green. Among the best experiences I have ever had playing golf!
Virtual GR league match against Jarvy5. Weekly twilight on front nine. Starting to get me golf game going. I can feel it, Dave. Other than hitting in the water on #9 a few times off the tee hehe I played pretty well. The only other bad hole was on #17 when I had to take a drop after shanking a 7 iron under a tree. Hit some great shots and broke 30 putts again at Valley View (never did last year).
Walked 18 after a final exam, ran out of daylight on 16 but still kept playing Par 72 course
42/41 83 2 birdies 6 GIR 1 fairway in the front 2 on the back haha 30 putts. It's the same course for both 9's and I went +4 for the day on #5 double's on both rounds. Back 9 the dew was setting on the green and I left a lot of putts short for par and birdie. Total for the day was 6 putts that stopped within inches of the hole. But I am ok with that since I read the line, just didn't compensate for the greens slowing down at dusk. 5 drives were behind tree's so I coulnd't go for the green.
overall a good ball striking day, just bad aim on the drives.
