I really enjoy playing Mick Riley on a Sunday evening. I did the same thing last week and enjoyed it so much that I did it again. This time, I got there early enough to hit a large bucket of balls before playing nine.
I was 2 under going into #9. I hit a great long chip 3 feet below the hole directly on line, but pulled the putt for par. I made a 15 footer on #8 for birdie, though...evens out. I hit the HiBORE in most of the fairways again. I hit a couple too high...need to keep it down with that 10.5 loft.
The cottonwood was flying...a couple of greens and tee boxes looked like they were covered by snow. The greens were aerated and had lots of little leaves and cottonwood on 'em. Still, I love this time of year here!
126. Ho hum. Played Mytton Fold, very physical course in Lancashire www.myttonfold.co.uk, some very steep climbs (seemed even steeper as I was carrying clubs). Better back nine than than front nine, as usual some great individual shots but wildly inconsistent, threw away too many shots through lack of commitment to chips and putts, need to work on that short game. Feel like I'm making progress though, want to break 110 this month and 100 by the end of the summer.
92 today at knollwood new course in ancaster, ontario. second best score ever for me. 36 putts, 5 pars, 1 birdie. What really hurt me is a snowman on one par 4.
Well, my game is starting to come back. After shooting 92-85-92-93 on courses I know really well (the 85 was on a course w/ 107 slope, so..... ) I've now recently shot 82,87 on courses I've never played before. That said, i'm not happy at all with the 87 last night.... more because of the course than anything else though. That said, i'll vent in a different thread.
Played a different course in my area yesterday. Par 71 layout that plays 6,459 from the tips. Shot an 80 (40/40). 6 FiR, 6 GiR, and 31 putts. Ballstriking was a lot better than the last few rounds. Continued to drive the ball great.
Shot well, after a ****** start. Scrambled to 4 over par by the 6th hole, but managed to remain at 4 over with two birdies and two more bogies for a 75. Was playing with two old Korean guys in there late 70s!! Of course they insisted on playing from the back tees?? I would sometimes have to wait three shots before I could have a turn. At least I didn’t have to make small talk during the 4 hour round, because neither of them could speak English. I know I should have waited for the next group to play, but they were the 2nd group of the day and I had to get to work before the Boss’s plane landed!!!
played over the weekend. 47 out and 47 in (par 72). not such a great round. this time was the reverse of the usual; drove the ball ok/well and short game wasn't so hot. my brother shot his usual; 3 over. i don't get it sometimes...par 5, 17th is 510yrds with water in play on the right side of landing area and into the wind. after poor tee shot w/ 3W, he's 250ish out. i hit ok driver and about 245ish out. i decide to hit first cuz he's helping female playing partner fish her ball out of the water. i lay-up to about 150yrds. he hits his 3W onto middle of the green. insane! man, when you got game you can still make up for your mistakes. must be nice!
Played 18 with three young Bombers and really enjoyed the round. Played off back tees and never outdrove them, but I hit all but one fairway. Two of them had businesses and their cell phones went off now and then but no biggie. Putter kept me close, but 'NO cigar", as I was high man at 78. The guy with me shot Par with a 72 and the others were close at 74 and 75.
Hope to get invited again sometime. More fun than Sr tees
