Pars on the first two, which are usually two bogeys and then I kept making one small mistake to cost me a stroke on what seemed like every hole. Doubled a short par 3 by going in the bunker. 3 putted from 30 feet on a par 5. Was 8 over at the turn.
Thought I might have turned it around when I made par on 10 but then I doubled 11, a hole I usually par. Then on the short par 4 12th, I had about 50 yards to an elevated, island like green and I hit the thing about as crisp as I could and overcooked it. Impossible up and down, another bogey. So I'm 11 over after 12.
Made par at the tough par 4 13th with an 4 iron to 20 feet on my second shot. Then made birdie on the par 5 14th.
I got to 18 tee 11 over for the day and I really wanted a birdie. Crushed a drive and left myself a half wedge in. A birdie would of given me an 80 would I would of been proud of with all my stupid mistakes.
Anyways, hit a decent shot into the green, left myself about 20-25 feet for birdie and what do I do but leave it 5 feet short and then miss that. 82.
I hit the ball pretty well today. But the greens are quick where I play and the pin placements can be brutal. We had one the other day where you literally had to lay up on your putt. If you aimed at the hole and missed, it was off the green. If you had a putt on the wrong side of the ridge, the smart play was to putt away from the hole where you could maybe leave yourself a 10 footer up the hill. If you went for the hole and missed there was no possible way to keep it on the green if you were on the wrong side of the hole.
Today was the last 9 hole weekly tournament at my "home course" (now 30 minutes away). It was a beautiful 60 degree afternoon. Picture perfect weather and beautiful scenery available in very few parts of the world. The green recovered really well after being aerated/sanded. We had a ton of rain that helped with that.
It was a very enjoyable afternoon that I extended by soaking in the scenery, weather, and one of the best public courses in the state...I chipped for at least an hour on the practice green and left at sunset.
First was in atrocious weather, and I returned 29 stableford points with 2 blobs and 37 putts Walked off soaked and tired. Completely lost my rhythm.
Second was in better weather but a little blustery towards the end. Shot +2 on the front and then a bad tee shot unsettled me on 10 and returned +6 for the back. Putting was back to my average 31 although I left a lot short, so no birdies
Still need some work on my ball striking/direction, but apart from the one hiccup above I have been consistantly returning about +8 for my last few rounds in competition so my handicap it coming down albeit slowly.
Shot an 81 on a par 70/129 today...putting was awful, had four 3 putts before settling down...had three birdies though and real good shots at about 5 others, but the putter wasn't happening today...one day the planets will align and it will all come together...
Carded a 75 today. Played "Pete Dye's Masterpiece" the Peninsula. 6700 yards from the tips. 71.5/125 rating and slope. Hit 8 fairways, 11 GIR, and 32 putts.
Bad round - 98. Last 4 rounds have been 113-90-104-98. Put 2 in the water on this long par-3 water hole. Finally, on the 3rd try, put it on the green and 2-putted for a 7. 4-putted one severely sloped green where ball just missed the hole and turned the other way at a 90 degree angle, drifting another 15 feet. Then 3-putted the next hole. On the front, flew a shot out of a bunker over the green, took a drop, duffed a chip out of frustration and made a quadruple. Flew another bunker shot over the green 3 holes later, and made double bogey.
Shot only some custom points on my new iGolf GPS caddie! We had about 15 inches of rain yesterday here in SE Texas, and have more water standing than even during TS Allison and Alicia in '84 and '90. I walked off some hazards, etc. and marked them with the Satellite. The front 9 may reopen tomorrow. No way on the back before the weekend.
played pretty good today. played 9 holes at the home course from the blue tees (3336yds.) par 36, shot a 36. started out on 1 w/ a double bogey. then went on to par the next 4 holes. on 6 i hit a 15' birdie putt. on 7, a 518yd. sharp dogleg left par 5, i had a driver-7iron into the green, left me 60' for eagle, missed eagle putt by 3", tap in birdie. parred the last 2 holes. everything in my game was working insync today. hopefully this carries on for awhile longer.
first week for the Tuesday men's league season to be over...bummer
It's cold and I've been sick the past couple of days, but I should be able to play in the last Thursday game of the season tomorrow. It should be in the fiddies and sunny.
I started off good today. It was cool, only about 50 degrees and misting all day. It has rained the last two. Did good on the front nine, had three birds, but messed up on 8 and 9 to go three over for a 39. Back nine was terrible....mist came down harder, got cooler and shot a 46 for a total of 85.
06 Match (bet) record: Pistol 44 Mr. Bogey 24 Tied 19
Pistol has $28.50 lead
Lemme tell ya how hard it is to win a buck from Pistol - At the last hole I am 1 up, and we both hit into a fairway bunker 60 yards short of the par 5 green. I am in a footprint to boot. I dig mine out onto the green about 25 feet away, and Pistol swats his on but 45 feet away with a ridge to putt over with a huge break. And he drops it center cut! I had to knock in my 25 footer to hold onto the match - and somehow did! Another great match after Pistol tromped me thoroughly yesterday.
I've been so unmotivated lately. I played in the last weekly noon game/twilight in the Bountiful Ridge men's league today. I shot an 84 which is how I have been playing lately.
