Went at it again after taking about a week off after the wheels had come completely off the wagon...played ok in comparison to last week where I was getting to the point that I could literally not hit anything, but still pretty poor...played 12 and was +2 thru 5, then fell apart again and finished 12 holes at +17...a train wreck that had me all but throw my clubs in the lake...I managed this despite hitting 6 of 9 fairways (the missed fairways included water and over the ob wall), having 17 putts and converting on 1/3 of my up and downs...I have a lesson tomorrow with the instructor that I have seen a few times who leaves me cold (he's got a little ego going) but gets great results out of me...I hope lighting strikes tomorrow because I am a mental basket case at this point...11 days w/o cigarettes, pretty proud of that start...
06 Match (bet) record: Pistol 53 Mr. Bogey 27 Tied 23
Pistol has $35.50 lead
The walking wounded were nearly healed - Pistol's back was much better and my strained groin muscle was no bother - but our swings were not quite healed as we both made some poor passes at the ball. Luckily for me I took one less!
Played 9 holes 2day.
Shot 31(5 under) and lipped out 2 birdie putts.
Hit all fairways and greens.
Playing real solid.
Hopefully i will play that solid at Q school

i wouldn't exactly say that you are a weekend duffer. LOL
I just noticed that I made "Grand Slam" status. I think it was Green Jacket before that. Not only do I have a Green Jacket, but I am either a really good MLB player now, too, or won 4 majors. I'll take the pro golfer and pro baseball player status.
Pistol vs Mr Bogey Epic Battle Dec 30, 06 (1 brief shower - 64 degree day) White tees 6500 yards
Pistol takes front 3 up and birdies to win the press on 9
Pistol takes back 2 up and pars to win press on 18
Pistol wins the match 5 up and the press - winning all 6 possible ways
Pistol was on his game today, hitting 14 greens and simply not making mistakes. I was sloppy, hitting only 7 greens and generally turning a lousy day into a decent one with the putter. Pistol and I had a rare day , getting to partner against our best super senior player and the pro - and we wore them out all day, as they bummed around in 79 and 83. Both my birdies held up as skins in our 16 player gaggle, so tho Pistol whooped me bad I had a profitable day.
im pulling the ball lately, and when i dont do that its a hook. really bothering me. only thing that kept me sub 80 was 2 chip in's and a lot of good putting. frustrating to say the least.
Just had to mention my score yesterday, cos it was my best round for years!
Fairly windy, ground very wet, yellow tees, 3 winter greens (but we played off the greens, that were in good nick, as nobody was watching! something i'm not proud of! but I was playing with two ex-captains!)
Great 4 ball better ball match. My partner 14 handicap, I'm 8, playing against, 3 and 7 handicap. Won front back 2 up, the match 4 and 3 and halfed the back 9.
Front nine par 35 (shot 1 birdie - 1 eagle - 5 pars - 2 bogies) for 1 under gross
Back nine par 36 (shot 2 birdies - 5 pars - 2 bogies) for level gross.
Par 71, shot 70, first round under par for 3 years!
Had a great run from the 6th to 11th of 3-3-3-5-3-3 that included birdies on stroke 1 and 2 plus an eagle.
Since apparently a few of you like to read about the matches Pistol and I have, I am gonna quickly recap 2006 results. Pistol jumped out to a big lead in our first 50 matches, winning 30 to my 10, w/ 10 ties. About then we hit balls in my 'practice area' one afternoon, and Pistol suggested a very minor swing thought change - for me to strike the ground with the sole of my irons rather than the leading edge. The results were immediate and lasting. The remaining 54 matches of 2006 went 24 to Pistol, 17 to me, with 13 ties. Since we posted every one of those final 54 matches here I was able to glean a few stats. Those 54 matches consisted of 68 9's (that is, 42 9 holers and 13 18 holers). Pistol's average 9 was 37.06, mine was 37.78. That means Pistol is about 1.4 shots per 18 hole round better than me over this period. In actual stroke play, Pistol was lower 35 times, I was lower 24 times , with 9 ties. Pistol had 17 rounds of 35 or lower with a low of 32 - I had 12 rounds of 35 or lower with a low (twice) of 33. At the other end, Pistol had 21 rounds of 39 or higher, high of 41; I had 27 rounds of 39 or higher, with a 43 and a 44 at worst. In the mid range of 36-38, Pistol had 30 rounds , I had 29.
Well ended 2006 year in a decent way.

Good day driving the ball and got aroundwith only 28 putts. No 3 putts which is always a nice sign to see. I need to work on the approach shots though they've been hurting me alot!
I had a tremendously fun end to 2006's golfing...with family. My wife's cousin lives near San Antonio, and about 8 years ago organized he and I, plus his three sons to play in an annual family-related scramble tournament called the Carriker Cup. It's always held at one of the nicer courses in San Antonio (and there are some wonderful ones), and includes a full course of 4 or 5 member teams who have to be related by blood or marriage. Some tremendous golf goes on, and there are some pro's and their families (this year tour pro David Ogrin, teaching pro Brian Gathright, former USGA Women's open champ Hillary Lunke). Our family finished middle of the pack with a 61 on the Quarry and had a blast, as usual. I hope this family tradition continues infinitely!
