Yesterday in the league I shot my best, 44 for 9 holes. I was ecstatic. That was even with a triple boggy on a par 3. My game has really been coming around the last couple weeks. I've only been playing for a year so I'm very pleased with how I'm coming along. Also, we play a few extra holes after a drink at the bar, and got my first birdie ever! Loving it.
Going to play 18 this weekend and hopefully do just as well.
Just got back from shooting a 75 on a par 54. Which actually isn't bad considering how small, slow and bumpy the greens are on this ****** course. As usual, I had some really good shots and some not so good shots. The nice thing is that I was hitting the ball pretty solid, just missing left or right a bit.
Today I shot a 78 at Sylvan Glen in Troy Michigan. Par is 71. 39-39=78. This is my lowest round ever. I even had 6 beers before my round, took a pee on almost every hole.
I played in the Round Valley Amateur in Morgan, Utah today. Johnny Miller invested in the place and will be putting in condos and redesigning the course soon. It should be pretty sweet in a few years.
I was 2 under through 12 holes and in great shape to place high. A big storm came in after the 12th hole, though. I double bogeyed a par 3 and bogeyed a par 5 when the storm was really bad...and it was...talk about windy! It was gone after a few holes, though. I managed the make a par on the last three holes after the storm passed.
I tied for 2nd Net and won $250! I bought a $329 SkyCaddie SG4 with my winnings and some of my winnings from last night playing the tables in Wendover...been a while since I had been there. I'm on a winning streak hehe.
Now, I get to play with my new toy...the coolest prize I've ever walked away with after playing a tournament.
I was hitting good tee shots, too...several were just inches in the rough, but in great position. I hit 11 greens, so under 30 putts with 11 greens is a good combination...70's and not 60's, but not too far off. I set a goal of breaking 70 in this tournament...first time to even think about it for a tournament like this.
I'm glad to be over my back/leg problem that was preventing me from making a full golf swing earlier this season. I'm not healed, but I can play golf now just like there was never an injury problem.
I tried out the SkyCaddie today. It worked fine and probably saved me from making a wrong club choice once or twice. I only hit the wrong club once and that was out of the rough against the wind.
I had a personal best score for this course, so having a caddie must have helped out.
Here is the scorecard. I entered the yardage for some shots. I was only able to get the "mark" function to work about half the time. I tried to get the distance for each drive, but it didn't always work...hit a few good ones that I wanted to find out hehe.
My complaints so far for the SkyCaddie SG4:
* not enough memory (10 courses is grossly inadequate)
* really poor design for recharging the thing...have to see it to believe it
* "mark" function to determine distance doesn't seem to work sometimes
94 on a par-70 playing it for the first time. 5/12 fairways, 7/12 if you count the shots after my tee shots went OB, plus two more within a yard of the fairway in the first cut. Only 3 greens; totally bizarre, spun at least two if not three balls off the green playing the NXT Tour. Glad it wasn't the Pro V1. 34 putts; greens were fast and deceptively sloped, course nestled in a valley.
I hit 6 balls OB so half of my total over par was just those OB shots. Most of the rest were caused by a fade/slice that plagued me all day, forcing me to get up & down for par (which I only did 3 times) from the right side of every green I wasn't hitting the wedge or 9-iron into.
On the bright side, my ball-striking was probably the best of any round I've ever played, as far as making solid contact goes. If I can get the ball straightened out, I should shoot very well. I'm really excited at the possibility. But that's easier said than done
Oh yes, and my dad eagled the 18th. Driver, 8-iron, and about a 25-footer with a big break. I three-putted for par, haha.
Played The Hermitage in Nashville yesterday. President's Reserve course had a 47 and a 44 for 91 from the whites. Played well on the holes I didn't have bad drives on. On the other course The Generals Retreat was a little easier but still had some tight holes and trouble abounded on both courses. Tons of bunkers and water on both courses. Shot a 41 and 47 for an 88 on it. The 47 had 5 pars, a bogie, two triples and a quad. If you can keep in in the fairway good scores can be had. The rough on the second course was darn near unplayable being bermuda about 3 inches deep and the ball almost always layed down in it. The courses were not cheap at 69.00 and 59.00 w/carts respectively but a great experience for one to try. A little over 100.00 to play both courses. We payed full for the first and the second was 29.00 plus tax.
