I played in the Norhern Utah Am today at Logan Golf and CC. I started on #4 which is a long par 3 that was playing 230. I hit it pin-high and birdied it (no skins in this tourney though hehe). I birdied the next hole, too, which is a very tricky par 4. I was playing it safe with a 3 wood and not trying to cut too much of the dog left left over the canyon, but I missed it more left than intended and ended up in perfect position for a short approach. I decided to go with a short swing with the gap wedge instead of the 60 degree even though it was a longish shot with the green downhill. I hit it just where I wanted and it released to the back flag pin-high. I made that 3 foot putt to start birdie-birdie.
Long story short, I shot 4 over and I'm sure I didn't win anything hehe.
Here is the scorecard and stats. I'm leading in birdies now on the leaderboard for this month. I was tied for the lead at 4...now I'm at 6.
I ended up with 5 birdies on that side and 6 total. 4 three putts inflated the score.
perfect weather and an awesome golf course in a very scenic area...great stuff...I only get to play there once a year.
It's two tournaments in one Thursdays. I won a $22.50 skin in the noon cash game. They also have twilight going on both front and back.
I hit a 9 iron 10 feet above the flag and backed it up to 2 inches to the side on #3 for the skin. The birdie on #17 was more difficult, but didn't win a skin.
ok that didn't work lol but a 83 on a 72. VERY nice course.. never been before but my friend loves the place and I found a 2 for 1 coupon so we gave it a try.
I played in an annual derby today. We came in 2nd place out of 8 groups. It's a two man alternate shot format. You get the highest score on a hole and you're done. Tie for the highest score and lose a chip-off and you're done.
We were in one chip-off. You can't watch to find out how the other guy(s) did. I went with the putter. We chip from way off the green, but I went with the Texas Wedge and put it about 3 1/2 feet away from well over 100 feet. My opponent hit to about 15 feet and never thought about using a putter hehe.
We ended up losing by missing about a 10 foot putt for birdie on the next hole. Our opponents made about a 6 foot birdie putt to take 1st. It's a short par 4.
Had a lesson, a couple of days ago, (on the course). Essentially, myself & the golf pro, were essentially shooting the breeze, so to speak. Anyway, when we got back in & booked the next lesson, I decided to pop back out on the accademy course we were using (a par30 9 hole course). Mainly to continue working on some issues I've previously been working on. Shot 35, which is 5 over parr, (equating to 10 over if I'd played 18)
So not bad for a 28 handicapper, considering my usual score over 9 holes on there is in the region of 37 - 42.
Looking forward to Sunday, when I'm playing the two Dave's on the main course.
Shot my best round of the year, a 77 at Mississippi Dunes in Cottage Grove, MN. It's a pretty tough course, so I was pretty happy. The greens are pretty difficult there, and almost all of them are crowned, and about 5-15 feet above the fairway, and to make it worse they shave the downslopes to the height of the fringe, so if you barely miss the green, you have a nasty chip coming up. Anyways, if I would have putted better I could have shot 1 or 2 over I think.
Lets see....
first hole, hit the approach to about 10 feet and lipped out the putt.
fifth hole, left a 15ft par putt inches short.
14, had a 25 ft eagle putt. Ended up parring the hole.
16, hit my drive short, into the knee high grass, chopped it out about 70 yards into the worst bunker on the course. It's right in front of the green, but about 20 feet below the green, and I was just about a foot into it on the left. So I had to stand on the side hill, with one foot out of the bunker and one foot in, anyways, hit it to about 6 feet and missed the par saving putt. Would have been the funniest par of my life.
17, par 3, chunked my tee shot about 80 yards, into the knee high grass(two holes in a row!), then hit my 60* and stopped it about 10 feet past the hole! lipped out the putt again :(.
18, missed an 8 foot par putt.
So you can see, my putting let me down a little bit, but the only three putt was that eagle oppurtunity.
Annnnd my new irons just came in the mail today, some mizuno mp-30's, got em used for like 160, and they are in great shape!! (160 is a good deal for those right?)
