Men's league twilight. My low score in the weekly twilight ever. I have had several 35's, but no 34's before. My season goal is to simply shoot 34 or better each nine and I've reached that goal at least a few times this season so far.
Tonight was different. I started off by hitting what I thought would be a good drive, but it hit by the pond and kicked in. I was thinking about just re-teeing and forgetting about playing in the league, but I played on. I dropped to 165 yards out and had to hit a high shot over a huge willow tree and to a pin tucked on the left side of the green. I hit it solid and walked to the right some to hopefully watch it land, but I never saw it land. I knew it was a good shot, but I thought it might have come up a little short because of having to hit over the tree and a 7 iron from that far out. When we didn't see it on the green I looked short and didn't see it. Then, I knew we better check the hole and I saw the ball mark about 4 feet directly in front of the flag and I knew it was probably in the hole...it was hehe. Birdie.
I had three 3's and tied for low gross score for the league. We played the last hole completely in the dark and I just got a par on the easy par 5. I was just off the green on #8 right below the hole from about 20 feet and made that after another player just made his from the same spot. I also birdied the toughest par 4 and hit a hybrid from 210 yards out to 5 feet.
Nice to get a fun score in late in the league season. I played with Dan and we have been playing together all season.
Had a 76 that felt a lot better than that. One bad hole where I buried my approach shot under the lip on a bunker and wasn't smart enough to take an unplayable. Ugly! Had a few 3 putts, but made up for some sins with 2 eagles on par 5s. No birdies anywhere, though.
Played my college nemisis this afternoon. A great round with a good wager on the outcome. Well the outcome was a . 74 to 75 in his favor :P What made it heartbreaking was on 18 I had a crushing drive leaving me with an even 100 yards into the hole from a level fairway lie. I needed to put it close so to get a chance for the birdie to make the tie and force a playoff. I grabbed the old 60 degree and proceeded to flub it a grand 10 yards. PAINFUL!!!!!! What made it worse was on my next shot I threw a dart that saw me with about a 6 inch put for par. What a ................still fun was had......
This is a bit late, but my son, son-in-law and I got together a few days ago for our first game in a long time. Had an even par 35-37--72, my son shot 91 (his first play in years) and my son-in-law had a 101, mostly from hitting tees shots out of bounds while trying to keep up with my drives.
i shot a 90 today but not as bad as it could have been i shot a 50 on the front and 40 on the back. I had a 4 putt and 3-3 putts on the front.... god my putting has been horrendous lately... green were fast today, any downhill putts went sailing by the hole.... oh well i'll take the 40, even though that included 2 double bogeys..
Had a 71 that could have been a few strokes better. Putted well and saved par from the bunkers two of three times. Played the par 5s poorly, getting only one birdie after being near the green in two on all of them. Birdied the longest par 3 (194 yds), but bogied two of the others. Oh well, maybe Wednesday will be better.
shot an 84. It was our last tournament of the year for regionals. We almost advanced only losing by 4 strokes. they took the top 2 teams out of 12. We got third. They also took the top 8 individually. I missed out on it by 1 stroke. Shot 44-40, it was a par 72. It was also british open conditions being very windy and pouring rain the whole time, when i started at 9 and finished at 4! Top score was 77. If I wouldnt have had 3 triples I would have done great and been there for the top. overall I was disappointed, but as a freshman I was pleased
Men's league nine hole twilight...finished in the dark..fun round
I think I had the low score for the entire league with the Even 36 on the back. I will find out for sure Thursday night. I did two weeks ago with a 34 on the front nine, too...tied with one other person.
I hit a hybrid a few feet directly behind the pin on #12 from 220 out from the upper tee box and got the birdie...good skin chance. I hit a gap wedge on #14 just over the back of the hole (against the edge), but it backed up to 20 feet away or so and I missed the uphill birdie putt. We played #17 and #18 in the dark...zero light on #18 hehe. I hit my 4 iron in the bunker and barely missed the save.
Had one of those rounds that I can't explain. Made 18 straight pars, although I hit only 9 greens in regulation. Hit every fairway, had 3 sandies and got up and down from 80 yards once. Never got a close putt for birdie (was 15 to 60 feet on my 9 tries). Oh, and it rained during most of the round. At least I didn't get hit by lightning.
the whole ******* course was still covered in sand. They just re-opened the course yesterday after punching the tee boxes, fairways and greens. So it was a rough go around. The front was worse than the back.
We had heavy snow today. I get out of the sports bar and it is really coming down.
Our last scheduled men's league twilight tournament is Tuesday...not looking good. I just picked up 2nd place points last week in our annual Cup play and was hoping for a good final week to get some good extra Cup money for a top 10 finish. I'm 11th now hehe.
played in a tournament here at my local course... shot 72 on saturday(couldn't make a putt) and 74(had a couple of bad holes and i couldn't make a putt). the good thing is that i met a lot of nice people and finished 2nd, which isn't bad. i believe i'll be working on my putting over the winter...
Just got back from a quick 9. Shot 42 with many mistakes and many saves. Should have known not to try to golf after a work party the night before. I was pleasantly suprised when I skulled a pitch into the sand, then holed out with my 60 degree. The ups and downs of golf. Gotta love it...
Had a very frustrating round. Made 79 hitting one drive OB and five shots into water hazards! Matched my three doubles with three birdies on a very unforgiving course, played in some rain and a lot of wind. Oh well, it's an Armold Palmer design and when he played it some years ago, he scored over 80. It's rounds like this that keep me humble.
I shot an Even 36 in the last men's league twilight of the season at Valley View. That should help my Cup standings for a little extra pro shop credit. I already have 13 sleeves of Pro V1/V1X, shoes, shirts, etc. in the closet ready for next season.
It has been a fun season. I'm glad I stopped taking lessons and changing things the past few years and just played.
