This is for yesterday, Nov 30. Played my home course with a large seniors' group. And we played from the senior tees (about 6000). Made three bogies, three birdies and an eagle to shoot 70 and tied for second overall. We played a modified stableford with 36 points as a base. My "quota" was 37 points and I finished +6. I hit most of the fairways and exactly half the greens, so my short game kinda saved me (25 putts). Having played only once in the past week, I'll take the results.
Only played 9, but a 50. 19 putts. It's funny, because I ordered a white hot tour putter recently, and haven't practiced putting for more than 5 mins in a week cuz i keep thinking it will come today.
I only play 9 in this terrible weather anyway. it was around 28 degrees.
I was one over for five holes and had to pull out of my club's President's Cup tournament with an uncooperative back. Will try to play on Thursday with my wooden shaft set which doesn't require (or allow) nearly as much torso twisting as my regular clubs.
Finally got out after my back relaxed a bit. Played with the wooden shafted set (brassie, mid-iron, mashie, niblick and putter) and a "guttie" bramble cover ball. Had two doubles, one bogie and six pars on the front, then made bogie on every hole except the last coming in to finish 41 - 44 -- 85. Good enough for a cool December morning.
Took it easy playing today. Never tried to hit the driver or any other club hard, just smooth good contact. Missed a few shots, but kept grinding steadily. Finished with 36 - 37 -- 73, making four birdies, two doubles and one 3 putt bogie. With my limited play this month, I'll take anything close to par!
There's nothing like free golf on Christmas morning. Played a nearby course with one of the members (so we had a cart) and had a surprisingly good round: one under 70 with 2 bogies and 3 birdies including the last 2 holes. That's one over my age. We played off the men's long tees (one set below the tips) with very few missed shots by either one of us. And he brought a large flagon of grog along, so we were toasty all the way around, despite low 40s temps and a lot of wind.
I'm glad I didn't hurt myself on today's round. I played a course that I've been on before, but of which I have little knowledge. I missed a number of shots today and had two doubles on each nine and only one birdie. My drives were okay, just shorter than usual. Oh well, my score was 42 - 42 -- 84. Easily my highest round with regular clubs in many years. At least I won't have a problem with my pride being puffed up as we start a new year.
Janus -- Is that your ball with a red locator line attached to it? If so, where do you get something like that? I could have used it a lot when I lived in the northern US.
I got it from the club for competition. Apparently they had work gathering few years back and they made loads of those. They just attached line by drilling a small hole to the ball and planted that line with some glue.
Way to go Xavier! It's great moments like that which keep us coming back to this game we (usually) love. Hope you have many more. For my round from yesterday (it's a deluge here in NW Florida this morning) I pulled out the wooden shaft clubs (brassie, mid iron, mashie, mashie niblick, niblick and putter) and had a very nice 89 from the 6100 yard tees. Not bad for the first time out this year.
Started out very rusty today, going 5 over on the first three holes. Then I hitched up my trousers and played 4 under the rest of the way, finishing in the rain with a birdie on the 420 yard uphill dogleg 18th. I think it was against the wind, too. Now that there is a respite from the cold (for us) weather, I'll have to get out more.
