95 (Nett 77) at Christchurch, lost the match play 3/2.......oh well, had a great day and also got an 80 meter pitch for a birdie.......mind you the double hit out of a bunker negated that
We had a decent day today, upper 40s, so I went a searching for a place to play. The nearest couple courses were closed, so I had a bit farther to drive, but I found one. Played only nine because I got there kinda late, but shot a 37 (par 33-no par 5s on the nine I played). The course isn't exactly overpowering, but still a nice score for the probable end of my season. I hit 5 greens and missed two others by only a couple feet. One birdie, hit a wedge on #5 to about 8 feet and made it. Had another good chance on #6 when I hit a 9 iron to around 8 feet again, but left the downhill putt short . Drove it level with the green left on the #7, chipped to 10 feet, and missed that one too. So a nice stretch there; too bad I couldn't have converted all three putts but I wasn't in too greedy a mood, just happy to be out there. I three putted the last two holes for a double and a bogey, so the ending was a bit sour, but overall it was a nice day to get out.
Hmmmmm, another 95 at Waitikiri, couldn't lift with the wedges, just kept thinning them over the green......not good at all.....oh well there's always tomorrow.
6 bogies and 3 birdies = 75 today. Winter month tee box is shorter but on this course, distance is not my problem anyway. On 11th hole I had to tee off with 6 iron and had sand wedge to the green. The most satisfying hole was 15th. I hooked drive to pricky bush. Everyone told me to take a drop - it's not worth being scratched by thorn. I took a stance in torny bush, wacked a hook of 8-iron from 140 yards. Then 5 yards off the green from the rough - pitched in with 62 degree wedge.. They couldn't believe their eyes. I missed a few short putts but made a couple of unlikely long putts. Overall, typical round but more satisfying one than plain 3 bogie round.
Two rounds at Rawhiti today, 87 (nett 71 in the first (including a birdie on 18 for the first time ) and 89 (nett 73) in the second (birdie on 14). Some stupid choices and thinned Wedges put paid to better rounds unfortunately.
91, in a rain drenched course. The 3" putts were gimmies, didnt feel like sticking my hand down into a cup full of water.
Hit 6 out of 13 fairways, and made GIR on 4 of 18 (The 4 I did make were the par 3's. . . if they really count or not. Granted I miss one par 3 green to a greenside bunker).
And I also fell in love with the CPR 2 iron hybrid. *drool*
46/43 - 89 at Lake Erie Metropark. 2 birds... a bomb on a par 3 & a sunk a 5-footer after a GIR on a par5. I was the only guy out there when I finished @4:15, which kind of surpirsed me. It was chiily & a bit windy, but not that bad. Could be my last round for a while. They're calling for snow the next couple of days here. I'll have to live vicariously through all of our Soutnern friends who post here. Keep them coming.
So ticked off today... I made a tee time at a local 9-hole executive course since I got out of school early -- Thanksgiving break -- and now it's raining! Shall I go or not, that is the question. My tee time was 7 minutes ago though...
Played Rutgers University GC yesterday with a buddy and shot 78. Nothing spectacular, in fact a lot of it was scrambling. The short irons, however, were the best I've hit them all year. From 125 in I didn't leave anything over 10-12 feet, and one PW hit 6" from the pin and stopped 4' away (missed the putt). Very happy with the round.
