Apparently we're supposed to buy small portable mats and lift our balls off the fairway, put these mats down, and play our balls off the mats. I agree with protecting the fairways, but considering the weather and lack of daylight, they are getting a lot of rest at the moment anyway.
How to ruin a game of golf IMO
You're a golf pro at a private club (I realise it is just opening) and you'd NEVER played the course!!!???? That's funny - we've been looking into changing memberships recently, and wouldn't consider changing courses until we've played a new one a few times... But to be a pro at a course?
Although I hadn't played it, when I came on it was 70% covered in grass and lagoons were still being done and the drywall was just going up in the clubhouse, I just rode the course and the layout is so good, I had to switch. And yes, the money is better there but more importantly is the hours are about 1/2 of what I was putting in at the resort course. I also don't have to deal with the rude tourists anymore (not that resort courses don't depend on tourism but come on, anyone ever heard of "The Golden Rule?")
Of course I still agree that if you are going to JOIN a club, you better join somewhere where you will enjoy the layout otherwise you'll dread going to play and that removes all of the fun. Remember, the professionals at a golf course can usually play ANYWHERE in the area for FREE so where you are employed is not really the important thing unless it is at the worst facility in town. Also, many times if you just want to play, you don't want to play your own course because most of us who care about our facility end up playing with a critical eye and taking notes for later...instead of PLAY, it is still WORK.
73 with 2 boggies. Public muny style course. should have never taken my driver......... would shot a 69 if i had left the driver home. course was 6850 yds from the tips with a dogleg at hole. no need for a driver...... ticks me off. cold and windy here.
Played yesterday in The southpine(My regions best tournament of the year... over two days on two different courses)
played Greenacres yesterday... quite long... pot bunkers... very quick greens!!!...and in strong winds
Started off on #10 par 3 and got aprox 1 meter away from the pin!....and it was closest to the pin hole so I had to write my name on the steak and mark it.
Then I missed the putt!!!! then I was terrible at putting from #10 hole to #15 keeped on hitting the longer putts too hard
Then on number #16 I bombed a huge drive about 250 yards(230 meters) and ended up getting a great birdie on that hole!!!!...... finished up with a 7 over for the first 9 including 2 doubles
on the second 9 my score was looking fantastic!!!!!! my irons were going great! I was 2 over after 7 holes then I had to double 2 out of the three last hole, It just totally ruined my good score!!!!
ended up with a 86..... should've easily been below 80 without those stupid three putts and terrible bunker shots, my short game is terrible!... but my long game is fantastic :nodsmiley ..... I'll see if I can do any good today! I'm in the hunt for a prize still
91 (nett 74) at Avondale on Saturday, started off good but rapidly faded .....ah well.
Did better at Templeton in the Presidents today, halved the round which coundn't have been a better outcome due to the friendly opponents , shot an 88 (nett 69) and had a great time.....which, after all, is what the game's about in my book.
