Just started Golf.......

Well I started golf at the ripe old age of 35, I've been learning for 6 weeks. I've had 2 lessons and have lots of range time, but no where near enough.

I am not going to have another lesson for another week or so.

I have had my first 9 hole round ( par 4s and 3s ) and shot 66. I know not too good. I had 11 penalty shots for lost balls and OOBs. I had 1 par on a par 3. I also badly putted on 2 holes. I inteded to just use 6 Iron and below but couldn't resist trying some bigger boys.

This game is addictive, I played enough good shots to leave me thinking I could play it.

My intital problem is I hook left a lot of the time and don't know why ?

I use my range time constructivly aiming at targets and only use my 7 Iron, 9 Iron on the range.

Anyhow any tips and hints for a starter are appreciated. I am learning to love this game.

Simon

66 with 11 penalty strokes is not bad at all for the 1st time out. A hook is caused by the clubface being closed at impact(facing left of your target line, if your right-handed). Mention it to the pro at your next lesson. It could be one of several reasons. My only advice is keep at it & practice your chipping & putting. That's where you score and you can usually find somewhere you can do it for free.

Thanks for the advice, I think my hook is to do with my grip and arms, it doesn't happen all the time and once a sort it out I should progress.

My chips and pitches are pretty good compared to most of my other game..

I really am finding it addictive, it always leaves you with something to make you think I can do it, but at times it kicks u in the....

Cheers

Simon
