Golf related injuries?

Hey guys,

My rib or ribs right underneath my right pectoral seemed a little sore and after a weekend of 27 holes on the course....has come to a point where I don't even try swinging the club in fear of further hurting myself. I did hear that a incorrect golfswing could induce certain injuries but wondering if anyone out there was encountered something similar :/

Torn meniscus, left knee. Two surgeries within nine months in the last year. Both attributed to my golf swing. Not so much an incorrect swing...as a violent one! I played competitive sports year round (football, basketball, baseball, softball) for more than 30 years without a major injury. I stopped playing those sports and concentrated on golf for the last 10 years and my doctor tells me its the stress of the weight shift to my left side, during my golf swing, that probably caused the damage to my left knee. Go figure! Golf isn't supposed to be an injury inducing sport...is it?

Leaguegolf, I partially tore my acl 7 years ago playing softball. The doc just scoped it, cleaned it up a bit, and told me it would eventually tear completely, especially if I continued to play ball. Well, I did...and it did. 2 years ago I completely tore the acl, along with a large tear in the medial meniscus. I had the full acl replacement surgery and the torn cartilage had to be removed. Prior to that, I actually had a problem putting too much weight on my left leg through the downswing, causing me to hit the ball very low-so low that I never even carried a driver or 3 wood. About 6 weeks into my rehab, against my doctor's and physical therapist's advice, I played a round of golf. It was probably a big mistake from a health standpoint(on a few swings I wrenched the knee, nearly tearing the grafted ligament), but from a golf standpoint, it was the best decision I've ever made. I keep my weight back longer now, allowing me to hit a driver, which added about 50 yards to my tee game, and hit my irons much higher now, allowing more of my approach shots to hold greens rather than run through them. On the downside, the doc says I'll be a prime candidate for a knee replacement by the time I'm 50(34 now).

I had a tender spot underneath my right shoulder blade that extended below my right rib cage. A trip to a sports massage therapist helped me alot as well as stretching excercises.

VJ Singh who is probably the best striker of the ball in the game today is having problems with his left knee now and will be having it looked at. I think any repeating motion will eventually wear down the body as we age.

I also discovered that by keeping my weight back that it improved my driving accuracy. The downside to keeping my weight back (and being reluctant to shift weight back to my left side) is that my iron play has suffered. I find that when hitting my irons I'm not "firing through" the hitting area like I did before the injury. This has resulted in lost distance and accuracy.

All those years of running, cutting, and the pounding my knees took, and I never had even the slightest knee problem. I play golf for a few years and now I'm on a first name basis with orthopedic surgeons.

Two broken ribs, tendonitis in the wrist. The ribs were from impact of a toed 3 wood from an adjacent fairway as I was fully exposed after a follow through so not really swing induced. The tendonitis was from hitting balls with the momentus and was more stupidity induced than actual swing. I have been fortunate to have no real injuries from 27 years of swinging the club but I do have a sciatic problem and lower back problems but I refuse to attribute that to golf...even though it probably is.

I went from hitting a low draw to currently hitting a higher, slight fade. My accuracy, however, hasn't suffered at all. I can miss greens now just as easily as I could before the injury.

i've hurt my neck a few times playing golf, once it got so bad i had to wear a brace for a week!

im not sure how i done it, i think it was due to not warming up correctly then lashing into a drive on the first hole. also collapsed in a heap Richard Boxall style on the 18th once after hitting a drive after twisting right around on my left leg because i didnt shift my weight correctly!! thankfully though i didnt break my leg!

Sounds like what I did to myself after 3 days of mega ball-hitting at the driving range. I was in my early 40s and had not played golf for about 20 years. In my case, it was the left side. I think it was my intercostal muscles (between the ribs). Really hurt, but it gradually got better. Haven't had the problem since... but then I don't put in long sessions at the range anymore, either.
