I'm organizing a small tournament for work (70+ people). We offered hole sponsorship to our vendors and clients and I never expected the high response I got. I have 10 sponsors!
Which is good, but to avoid repetition, I would like to have different hole competitions. So far I have:
Longest drive
Closest to the pin
Closest to the object
Straightest Drive
Putting Challenge
Does anyone know of any other types of hole competitions?
Sorry to get off topic, but are you a video gamer? I have World of Outlaws Sprint Car Racing for Playstation 2 and the cheat code to unlock all of the tracks is "JoeyJoeJoe". So, to me, you're famous
how would straightest drive work? is there like a camera set up on the hole to track the ball flight?
The way I saw it done, there was a string running down the middle of the fairway, in the landing zone. (The string was suspended along sticks set up in a straight line. Pick a fairway that's pretty straight to begin with.) Closest to the string won. Didn't matter how long or short the drive was; just had to be closest to the string.
The weird thing was that you couldn't see the string from the tee; you just had to hit and hope to be close to the middle.
yeah thats what i was thinkin, but then i also thought, it didnt necessarily need to be straightest, because you could fade or draw one onto the string!
I have seen it done with a chalk line down the center of the fairway, and, as stated before, the one closest to it wins. The funny thing with some chalk lines that I have seen, is that the line meanders down the relative center of the fairway. That truly adds some luck element for non golfers.
I know you said you didn't want to be too repetitious but many of the corporate events I run do a men's and ladies prize if it is a mixed event. That would get you to 10 very quickly. Otherwise, many of mine also do a front and back CTP and LD. Add in a Longest Putt Made and Closest to the Line and you just need 4 more. A shortest drive is a funny one as well...just make sure you require it to be in the fairway so they at least have to hit it off the tee. I had a ranger one time that I sent out to paint the line (we use turf paint for Closest to the Line or Most Accurate) and he started about 6 inches in front of the tee. The last guy up saw that there was no one that had hit the line so he putted the ball onto the center of the line to win with a 12 inch drive. Just be sure the line starts a little bit off of the tee to make sure the players actually have to hit a shot. Although it would be somewhat redundant, I have done events with closest 2nd and closest 3rd shots on Par 4's or Par 5's and in line with those, Shortest 1st Putt Holed which takes your good iron shot and puts the pressure on for the prize.
I have also seen other novelty prizes given but some slow play dramatically such as most balls in the pond.
