You hadn't planned to ace it? Come on, don't you think hole-in-one on every par 3? I do. Am I alone?
Sure, the pros sometimes have to aim for the centre of the green, but I don't play enough not to aim for the flag. (Sure, I try to make my misses on the safe side.) I'm only going to have so many chances for a hole-in-one!
personally i play safe , get it on - close if possible
unless the pin is in the middle of course
but golf is all about confidence and positive thoughts
chip in not at ! makes a huge difference
just look at the number of people that just keep getting holes in 1 on the same hole over and over , they know they can and want it so it happens

Hi, David.
I really don't, no. I'm a 15-hdcp and on par 3's I nearly always go for the middle the green. Maybe I'll cheat a little toward the flag if it doesn't bring too much risk (e.g., a bunker) into play. My tee-shot goal is just to get the ball on the dance floor so I can put a precious 3 on my card and move on. However, on that particular day, it was a tournament in which our entire foursome was a team and only 2 of our 4 scores would count on that hole. So, like my playing partners, I shot at the pin, even though it was in front, tucked behind a bunker.
My other hole-in-one was on a 199-yd hole. From that distance, I was definitely just trying to get it anywhere on the green. I aimed at the middle, my fade took it to the right front, and the hole got in the way. Can't call it a great shot, really.
But I do know a lot of people who have your go-for-it attitude, and I admire their take-a-shot attitude. Probably my game would be more exciting if I had such an attitude.
I don't have a hole in one yet and when I do think before a shot that "this could be the one" the shot usually fails miserably, so I try not to think about it. It will come one day.
17 years and still no hole-in-one for me. There are certian times where I feel the hole-in-one coming. The hole just looks right in my eyes, I can see that shot in my mind's eye, and I honestly think "hey, I'm going to hole this one." But like my first sentence reads, 17 years... and counting :(
My only hole in one came from a hole that was hidden by mounds. In fact, I thought a crow had taken it until we found it in the hole as they were stealing balls all the time at that stage. There seems to be a huge difference in the way we 'celebrate' when we actually see it happen compared to when we 'find it in the bottom of the cup'. Mostly my partner's were simply saying "You tinny b......!" and I was a little embarrassed as well as excited.
If I don't get a hole in one in the next 50 years....I'll just stand on a par 3 all day and keep on hitting balls on the green until I get one in!!! can't die without a hole in one hmmmm.... although I have had a hole in one on the practice fairway does it count
I don't aim for the pin on all par 3's. Sometimes doing so will put you in the position for a guaranteed bogey or worse if you make a mistake. This is especially the case on one of the par 3's at my home course. If the pin is on the left and I miss left, it'll take a great shot to make par. I'd rather aim for the middle of the green and hope I can make the birdie putt but I'll take 3 there anyday.
I almost always go for the pin on par 3's--and on just about every other hole too. That's one of the reasons I post such big numbers sometimes. I look at golf as a game, and I have more fun going for everything than playing it safe. Never had a hole-in-one. I've been within a foot a couple of times, but never in.
ive holed a 4iron and 7iron for aces
put a 9 iron in on the full ..bounced out tho
almost slam dunked a 7wood
and have holed a PW , 2 7irons and full punched lob wedge for eagles
missed an albatross by a foot with driver but that was not a shot i could be proud of . "duck hook that took some nice breaks etc on the fairway and just kept rolling"
what i do find funny tho is - how often do you almost get an eagle or a tap in birdie when youve thinned an iron from miles out ?
