Help with a rule please!

A playing partner I was playing with last week was hitting her second shot....the grass around her was quite wet....but it was in a good lie, so she hit her ball with one of her woods topped it and drove it strait into the ground......

The ball never left the ground so is there a penalty or is it just treated as a suckered ball???

Then it was right by her feet!!!

a stroke is a stroke, no matter where the ball goes or doesn't go. if she would have taken her stance and made an attempt to hit the ball but whiffed, that's a stroke. in this case, a rub-of-the-green, lol.

Stagday and your playing partner are right. Once you address the ball and attempt to hit the ball it is a stroke. You should commend her integrity.

the shot is a stroke . no penalty on top
if shes on fairway the plugged ball can be lifted i guess "no penalty"
is an odd one tho , seeing as the ball didnt actually land and plug as such
if shes in rough shes gotta hack it out or declear it unplayable which leaves the options of
1 - drop withen 2 clublengths no nearer the hole
2 - taking it back to where she hit it from
3 - keeping the ball and pin in direct line take the ball as far back as she wants
all 3 incur a 1 shot penalty
