Trivia: What is the most amount of balls lost in one round by anyone?
Guys and Gals,
Take a guess. By anyone, I mean an amateur like you and me. Even a beginner. Not a pro at a USGA Golf tournament. If you want for bonus points, you can also guess the course.
Well, I couldn't see how a record like this could be kept track of but since I'd like to make a guess, I'd say the TPC at Sawgrass. I think I read an article about how many balls are lost each year on the par 3 island green and it comes out to more than 2 balls per player. Maybe even 3. I'm sure some people must hit a bunch of balls there trying to get on. I mean, if I made the trip there, I wouldn't want to leave without knowing I got a ball on the green.
Judging from records like these, though, it was probably some ridiculous number made by someone who had no business being on a golf course.
How hard was this golfer looking for his mishits? If he took five minutes for each one, the bigger question might be how long this round of golf took! Let's see, now, 2 dozen? and I agree with victory that the course was the TPC at Sawgrass.
I think I lost 13 balls a few years ago at a local course called "Los Rios CC". I was just OFF that day, and had to borrow a couple of balls from my playing partners to finish the round. Gosh, I hate to bring that memory back!
When i was first starting out I lost 7 on one hole. It was a 165 yard par 3 with a water hazard in front of the tee box. Finially I hit a slice on to the cart path and was able to get it in for a triple bogey.
P.S. now I am shooting par to bogey on all the par 3's.
This probably doesn't qualify but......July 19, 1995 I lost 160 balls at a local municipal course while playing 18 holes.
I lost four balls playing the course (Lost my opening tee shot in the woods, never did find my ball in the long rough on #8, and dunked two in the pond on #10) ......but the 12 dozen Titleist Professionals I had purchased, on my way to the course, to use as prizes in an upcoming outing (along with my personal stash of a dozen Titleist DT Wound, my pull cart, an almost new pair of FootJoys and 5 new gloves) were "lost" when my car was stolen from the parking lot. I remember the details, like it happened yesterday, because of the insurance hassles. I learned an expensive lesson that day...don't overstock your trunk!
I don't know the answer to this thread's question but I certainly hope I never get stuck playing behind anyone who continues to count lost balls after the first 4 or 5!
It is lost balls per round, not the most amount of balls lost on one individual hole.
How about I give my answer Sunday night or Monday morning. I know not everyone can read this site everyday :) I will also give a hint on Saturday afternoon/night as to what course.

No penalties for the lost balls??? I don't want to nitpick, but if you lost 7 balls, you must have scored a 19, according to my calculations.
No it was more like a 23. But now I am doing better only looseing three ball per 5 holes. That is the most that I can play after my college class gets out and before my next one starts. Now I am in the bogey to triple bogey range. I am hopeing to reach par by mid november. Wish me luck

Lost 7 balls on one hole and made a 6? Don't we all know a couple of guys that count like that?
You said you were just starting out, but didn't anyone tell you that you keep your score by adding the number of strokes you take (plus penalties)....and not by the number of balls you lose on a hole? Even using that new math method of just counting lost balls, you still made a quadruple "lost ball" bogie (4 over par).
Of course, if you subtract any balls you may have found on that hole, the new math score could be correct. Example: I lose two balls in the woods, but I find three balls while I'm searching for mine. That puts me at one under -1 for the hole!
There's a lot of different ways to have fun playing this game and I'm glad to see that you've improved your Par 3 proficiency.
Those were mulligans. Only count the ones that you can hit. But this finding balls to subtract form you score sounds interesting. I will try to see if the other players will let me institute that rule. lol
