It seems to me that at least once a round, I have a tragic Nick Lachey moment (think episode in Arizona where it showed him taking 6 shots to get out of the sand barely)..
Last time out, was on a roll.. Hitting my tee shots straight, good iron play, etc.. was 5 over after 7 holes (I usually shoot around a 103 or so, so I was rocking it) and then it happens. 9 shots to get out of the sand, 2 chips, and 3 putts later ended up with a 16 on a short par 4...
I figure this does not happen to everyone... but ever since I watched that episode on the Newlyweds, I've had at least one a round, which completely messes up my score.. boooooooooo
Ouch, trudat. I hit double digits every once in a while; man, it hurts. Worse than that, it's downright disorienting.
I was playing in a league event once and a guy in my group kept dumping fairway-wood shots into a big water hazard he was trying to clear. Painful to watch him drop, hit, dunk it, drop, hit, dunk it.... At the end of the hole, he announce his score as a 14. Then on the next tee, he said, "Wait a minute; I think it was a 16." Either way, he had clearly shot himself out of contention. We complimented him on his honesty. Not much else we could compliment him on, that day.
What's the longest anyone has ever gone without scoring a double-digit hole (you can't include those holes you pick up on because your handicap won't allow you to get more than 6, 7, etc.)? I'm right around a decade, with the exact date lost to the sands of time (and a bunker or two).
P.S. I played off and on for that decade, too, sometimes quite a bit. If I had to estimate the number of holes, let's see... 10 * 50 * 18 = 9000 holes.

Those scores are the worst. Ruins your whole day. Luckily, it doesn't happen for me anymore but a 7 or even an 8 will ruin my day. I have a friend who just picked the game up about 6 months ago. She strives for a double bogey per hole and this past Saturday, she was below that mark. After 8 holes, she was at +15 but unfortunately, she got a quadruple bogey on the 9th hole to finish at +19. Only one over her goal but that last hole kind of ruined her day.

we've all been there, but try to analyze what happened. what really happened in the sand? and since it took you 9 to get out, i would assume you were pretty hot and then proceeded to the rest. maybe lost your focus and didn't relax.
maybe just taking a few moments to relax and refocus would help, don't rush the next shot.
of course, the old saying still stands, i'd rather be lucky than good, lol.
Yeah man, it was a real frustrating experience. After awhile, all I could do was laugh as I tried to hit (as my friends were almost in tears laughing). I finally got it out barely (it hit the lip, bounced up and went about a foot from the sand into the rough).. but alas, I guess I should just keep my cool and try to stay calm.
I'd rather be lucky and good.. but thats just me.. hehe
I remember one match I played in as a freshman. I was on a roll. I was one under through three and then I made a 10 on a par five. I finished with a 40 though. The coach deffinatly did not understand.
