Other...SOUTH Carolina/Georgia Coast. We still get frost delays here in Hilton Head but our average daytime temp in our coldest month (Jan) is still 59! As Jim pointed out, we are 30 mins from downtown Savannah and all of that history and 2 hours from Charleston with a lot more history if one would desire a break from golf.
The reason I don't pick FL/AZ is because of all of the snowbirds that flock to those locations and make getting tee times tougher and since it is their "high season," the rates are much higher. It is our "low season" so you get great golf at reduced rates and usually, the pace of play is pretty good on the resort courses because not as many people are in town. Same thing with the restaurants...not as crowded so there isn't the 1-2 hour waits for a table common in the summer (and most DO NOT take reservations so you are kind of stuck).
Explanation of other: I have never played in US but PLEASE remember there are whole other continents playing golf too!
My vote goes to Portugal as I had a splendid holiday there last February and it's a lot nearer than the States
:nodsmiley :nodsmiley I voted for NC since I live here and play golf all winter. I have a beach house and love to go down there to play when it is cold (50degrees). We just have Jack in a flask and sometimes just go to the clubhouse and play poker. The weather can vary here from 60's to 40's you just have to have backup plans if an unexpected cold front comes through. Also, the Pinehurst area course all have great winter rates 25-35 dollars for winter play. If you have to fly then I can see planning ahead but if you are driving then just drive on to plan B.
Just returned to the uk after spending 3 months in Fuerteventura in the canary islands. Sun all year round and a good par 70 course (held the spanish open 2004). There is also another 5 or 6 courses under construction at the moment so should turn out a good winter escape zone.
Louisiana?...man it gets darned cold down there in winter...I froze on the golf course for 40 years in the cold, wet winters in Memphis, TN, before I decided to make a change...so I moved to Sarasota, Florida. Here it is, 3 days before Christmas, and it's sunny and slmost 70 degrees! Poop on cold weather....and there are more golf courses here than you can count! If you can't move here, you owe it to yourself to at least come here once for a few days when it is 10 degrees and snowy where ever you are! Palm trees, exotic birds and flowers all over the place, warm sun and some of the most beautiful, green golf courses I have ever dreamed of...it is another world in south Florida. Spend a week here, and you will know why property values went up 30% last year.
I'm biased here but I think you should all come to Hawaii as your "Winter" golf destination. Winter is in quotes because you'll encounter weather in the 70's and 80's during your stay here.
As for myself, I would probably choose to go to Vegas but more for the other activities than the golf.

Just got back from Tampa area. Some excellent courses, I played Bardmoor and Dunedin, plently more to choose from ranging from expensive ,such as Innisbrook , to less than $40 with coupon , e.g Tarpon Woods. Weather stayed between 75 to 78 for most of three weeks.
I went on a golf binge this week, since it was nearly 80 degrees every day and sunny and played 72 holes. I guess I'm adicted to it...just can' t enough.
