update on the fairway wood situation

I went to the pro shop today to test out some fairway woods... heres my findings...

mizuno mp-001-to heavy but hit the ball a mile when i could get the face squar
callaway fusion- to thick no way ur hitting that wood in the rough even with a good lie
Taylormade v-steel- impressive one of the top
nike ignite- stick to making shoes, no feel, hit the ball a ton prolly the longest one in the bunch but it was dead to the touch and not workable
ping g2- tied with clevland. GREAT fairway wood amazing feel and distance. i just dont like the shaft placement in the head
Cleveland launcher- great feel great distance good look at adress

so the final story is................................................ ................. ive gotta go again and try them all one more time.

Thanks for the report but I have no clue what "fairway woods" you're talking about. Each company makes several different models with various shaft combinations and you didn't tell us the specific models you hit.

BDR444, I see you have a Callaway Fusion #3 wood. How is it out of the rough for you?

My favourites are the Clevelands and Pings!
The Cleveland feels really good off the clubface, i hit a 5 wood.

No Adams Tight Lies tested? Just for a lark?

How do the clubs you tested compare to the Orlimar Tri-Metal that you currently play?

for what it's worth leftone, i always used stiff fw wds, but tried and bought the cleveland launcher fairway woods reg.flex( 15 and 17*) last summer. they really do set-up nice and i gained more height and distance with them. there not the titanium heads but i like the size of these and they are easy to hit, fairway or rough. btw, i use a 983k ys-6 stiff driver, but the reg flex in the fwy woods seems to work for me. i'm sure you are much longer with your clubs than me, but just offering what works in my bag, lol. good luck finding the right one.

There are a lot of fairway woods out right now... Adams has the Redline RPM and the Ovation, TM has the Rescue Fairway and the 580series, Titleists, Sonartec (which I would recommend you try) has plenty of models..... Even some of the older TM and Callaway heads with a newer shaft might fit you better.

adams = overated IMO

as for how they compare with my trimetal... i bought that trimetal 5 years ago i think and boy has that been a go to club for me. I wasnt looking for a new one outta of neccasity just as an upgrade.. i can crush the olimar but the new technology might yield me as good if not better results with less effort. perhaps ill jsut reshaft and regrip the ole olimar and buy a driver instead.

Same as any other fairway wood. It's just as easy.

I heard there was no way you could hit that club out of the rough...even with a good lie.

well that was my opinion as a scratch golfer. its got to thick of a face that creates more drag making it tough to cut through taller grass.......laws of physics i suppose. thats my opinion after about 10 mins with it. im sure bdr444 knows more than me since he plays it everyday. the olimars face is so thin and small it cuts right through the roof making it very easy compared to a thicker/taller face fairway wood.

Do you mean too tall of a face, or too wide of a face? Because club face thickness has no bearing at all on how a club moves through the grass. But you know that right....laws of physics and all.

Go with hybrids. Evolution. Remember the old "wooden" woods? We abandoned those just as we'll abandon 2, 3 & 4 irons.

i love my long irons i wont switch to hybrids for a while. and league im talking about hieght and width which effect it moving through grass as there is MORE of the club thats needs to move through the grass..... of course i didnt go to college but im pretty sure that IS a law of physics.
