I was just wondering what everyone carrys as a 14th club and why? Are you super manly and carry a 2-iron or maybe you like the lob wedge. Are you pretty standard and just carry a 5 wood or even a 7 wood and hybrids instead of those pesky long irons? What does your bag look like and why do you feel that set up gives you the beast advantage possible.
I have a driving iron that goes about 210-220 yards and pretty straight. It can also be used for chipping from the fringe, like hamilton with the metal wood, but I rarely use it for that.
I am not a long ball hitter anymore so I carry a driver, 3, 5 and 7 wood and leave the 3 and 4 iron home most of the time. I carry a 5-PW, gap, sand and lob wedge and putter. I have really lowered my scores since I started really working on my short game, expecially my chipping. I get out in the front yard several times a week with a 9, PW or other wedge and hit the ball to an old saucer swiped from my kitchen cabinet. It has really paid off on the course when I find myself looking at the same shots I made in the front yard. I guess the neghbors have come to the conclusion I am a bit ecentric...oh well.
you can only have 14????...okay, okay settle down i was just kidding.
i have the 1,3 and 5 woods 4 through 60 deg and putter but thats only cause i'm rarely
far enough away to use a 2 or 3 iron
I was talking to a club pro here in town that was in the FedEx qualifier with Kip Henley a few years back. Kip only had 13 clubs in his bag and sent a spectator on the 17th to the pro shop at Colonial here in Memphis to get a putter (any putter, according to the pro). As the story (and I stress STORY) goes, Kip put it in his bag to show his other putter that it could be replaced and went on to make birdie on 18. I cannot confirm the validity of this story, but it sure is fun to tell.
I'w pretty sure you can only replace clubs at the "TURN" and not during any other point during your round.
During tournament play you can only "replace" a club that is damaged in the normal course of play. Where you are on the course is irrelevant. However, if you begin a round with less than 14 clubs you may add as many as you like, provided you don't exceed the 14 club limit. THE RULES OF GOLF Rule 4 Section 4a.
