several thin layers of clothing and most of all GORE-TEX, then wipe your competition away and don't let them know if you're cold.

The only thing I find that you must have is gloves so it doesn't slip out of your hands!....and a towel.

That also reminds me a few weeks ago I won this tournament in the pouring rain, and I carryed on in my shortd and top.
ok don't listen to me I'm dumb, but I hate wet weather gear!
This thread is about "Cold Weather" not wet weather. Most of know how to deal with wet. Only those of us in Northern climates have to deal with cold!

As a golfer in N.Ireland i reckon i know a thing or two about playing in cold, wet, windy miserable weather. Apart from realising that the ball isn't going to fly as far in cold air (you can probably take off 5 yards from your summer distances), there are 2 main things for distance control in the cold. 1- Keep your hands warm with a pocket handwarmer or some warm golves between shots. When your hands are cold you can't control your grip properly resulting in varying shot distance. 2- keep your ball warm! this may sound silly but if you keep your ball in your pocket as much as possible i.e. between holes, it will give you a few extra yards and feels softer off the club.
The most basic advice for bad weather is to be properly dressed and kitted out. Make sure you wet gear fits properly, it's not easy swinging a club in a jacket thats too small or too big. Keep the hood on your bag to shield your clubs from the wind and rain. And just stay warm and dry.

I am going out this morning and right now it is 37* out, I don't know what that equates to in centigrade, something around -204? Anyway, it's cold. Here in the PNW it gets cold and wet in about late September so if you are going to try and play year round get used to it.

For me I try and hit a ball with a little less height, not on purpose all the time but for me the more roll the better. Losing a plugged ball is something that irks me more then most things golf related.

Obviously one needs to stay warm, but I notice that my body is less flexible and not as fast in cold weather. This accounts for some loss of distance. (By cold I am speaking of 0*C or 32*F) This is probably due to both the additional clothing and the temperature.

Precept has some excellent info on the effects of wind and temperature on distance here:

http://www.preceptgolf.com/science/index.htm

Everything put together I have noticed distance losses as great as 20 yards compared to summer distances.
