Crazy Long!

Hi Folks,

Just wondering if any of you have an interesting story of a shot, with any club, that traveled MUCH further than it ever should have?

Last Friday I played at a local course and stepped up to a 340 yd. Par 4. I pulled out my 19 degree hybrid Titleist, teed the ball, took a smooth swing and watched as the ball just rocketed up and down the fairway. I knew it was a good shot, but I had no idea just how good it actually was.

I got in my cart and drove down to around to where my ball should be (220-230 yds down the fairway) and it was no where in sight. :hmm: As I looked around a little in the edge of the rough a ball caught my eye that was a good 30 to 40 yds ahead of me. I thought to myself "NO WAY", but I had yet to find my ball where I thought it should be, so I got in my cart and drove down to where this ball was. Sure enough it was my Pro V at only what looked like 40 yards from the green. I stepped it off and sure enough I had driven that ball over 280 yds with a 19 degree hybrid club. This is longer than I normally hit my driver. lol.... Well to end this story I flubbed my pitch shot and two putted for par, but that monster hit with made my day. I'm quite sure it was due to my hooding the club or de-lofting it unknowingly, but whatever it was I wish I could produce it on command. LOL.

Anyone else have a CRAZY LONG story?

When I was playing my 962s, I hit a 5-Iron in a tourney that I'll never forget. I had 190 to the green, slightly uphill and made a nice smooth swing and it REALLY felt good. We get to the green and can't find it. Well, although the shot was pured, the ball was nestled in the rough just over the green...the shot had traveled about 220 yards. That also illustrates the major complaint with the original 962s...air pockets from the casting that allowed some irons to produce a "flyer" when struck just right.

Great idea for a thread macdaddy. I'm not real long & at the time this happened I'd carry a good drive 240 or so. I was playing by myself, a 302 yard par-4. It ran down through a valley & the last 100 yards to & beyond the pin are uphill. I'd played the hole a dozen times and never been closer than 50 yards short of the green on the upslope. A foursome ahead was putting out, so I hit my drive. I knew I caught it pretty good, saw it take off straight and then I lost sight of it. As I walked up the slope I couldn't see my ball anywhere and I knew I hit it straight. I'm looking all around, so I call over to the 4-some on the next tee, asking if they'd seen a ball. One of them pointed to the thick stuff off the back fringe . It had to have gone right through them while they were putting. I apologized profusely, insisting(truthfully) that I'd never hit one anywhere near that far in my life. If they hadn't pointed out my ball I never would have found it as it was sitting down in the rough. I chipped to 4 feet and made the bird. Seeing as chipping and 4-footers were the weakest part of my game at the time, that was probably about the best hole I've ever played. I still have no idea how it happened. It didn't feel all that special. There was no hardpan, rocks or anything it could have bounced off of in front... it must have carried at least to the front edge(285). I'll never forget it...

I have a similar story with my 19 degree hybrid. Two weeks ago at my Dad's member-guest I had about 220 to the pin, up hill into the wind from the left rough. I was hoping for a piece of the green on the right side. That club went through the rough like it wasn't there, drew the ball right toward the pin but it FLEW 25 yards over the green. Guess I talked myself into too much swing!! Bogey.

My experience was with my driver in a scramble format tournament. On a 475 yard par five I hit my drive down the left edge of the fairway over a oak tree and it hit on the edge of the rough and bounce back into the fairway. Came to rest at the 100 yard marker. That was a 375 yard drive. I usually hit it about 275. It wasn't like the ground was hard from a drought either. I was stunned. I hit a sand wedge into the green for the next shot and our team missed the eagle putt.

I was playing with my buddies.. it was a 350 yrd par 4, uphill. I took out my 5 wood (because I was feeling very comfortable hitting it at the time) bombed it 250 yards up the fairway.

Par 3. 231 yards. Left to right wind. I pull a 3 iron, just because all I had otherwise was a 3 wood and that was too much. I flew the 3 iron over the green by 15 yards.

I really have no idea how. It wasn't a down hill shot, no wind at my back...so go figure.

I was playing medium lenth par four when i was on holidays and ther was a 20 yard gap/creek thing about 240 yards down the fairway so i took a 5 wood to lay up just short. I just smoked the thing I walked down and saw it on the other side of the gap 285 yards down the pipe.
