Uplink Golf

Has anyone ever played at a course that has uplink golf computers in all their carts? I played at Teravista a few weeks back and they had them. They look like this. I thought they were cool although at sometimes they were too controling but I bet very helpful to the course staff. They control speed limits, and on holes that are cart path only it will kill the engine if you try to get off the path. Best part to me was that they provided the distance between carts in front of you and told you about your pace standings, etc. I'm sure it was a fortune to install and operate.

What does everyone else think of them?

the course around my house has them and they have their goods and bads. They are very informative and the pace of play of nice, but i have found the yardage can be a bit off. My buddy and i had carts parked directly beside each other and the yardage was 10 yards diference. But all in all i think it improves a round.

I've found that the yardage can sometimes be a little off as well but I don't think they are any as off as the markers in the gound. I think it provides a great view of the hole espechially on dog legs which is hard to get off and small image on a scorecard.

I agree that the yrds. are off. I like it because it gives you the aerial view of the hole including possible hazards.

I used it for the first time when I first played the Bobby Jones municipal course here in Sarasota, FL. I guess it is pretty neat, and I really like how it tells you what the hazards are ahead. On the downside, it makes the game a bit too high tech for me..I really like just looking ahead down the fairway and figuring out for myself what is the best strategy. I like getting away from all the modern high tech junk when I play golf..of course I use some latest high tech clubs, ect., but it is nice learning to rely on my intuitive instincts instead of some space technology that tells mehow to play the game. But I guess it is the wave of the future, here today. It is bad enough having my cell phone along with me...at least I hide that in my golf bag.

pros have caddies who do basically the same thing for them so I dont feel bad about using that or a range finder
