Yesterday, my friend and I arrived at the tournament I practiced all week for. We signed up and bought a bucket of range balls to hit before it started. Just then I get this horrible pain in my low side, I can hardly move so I call my dad to pick me up.
I hardly slept at all because of the pain so today I went to the doctor and found out I have a urinary track infection. I have to go back in a week to make sure I don't have a kidney stone as well, and I'm only 16! What horrible timing!
Oh well. Anyone else have any somewhat golf-related horror stories?
Sorry to hear about your ailment. I'm sure you'll make a successful recovery and be back on the course in no time.
This past year, I've suffered a number of minor injuries. I got up to a single digit handicap last year when I started to feel slight pain in my left wrist. It was around the same time Furyk had his problems. I never got it checked out but it did bring certain thoughts to my head. I could still play but it affected me mentally and my game started to falter.
Then, I broke my thumb several months ago. It sidelined me for about a month. I still managed to play but I couldn't make a full swing with my thumb splinted (yes, it's pretty difficult to keep me off the course).
A few weeks ago, I was in a car accident and suffered some neck and back injuries. I've been going to the chiropractor ever since and he adjusted my neck and my hips. Apparently, one of my legs was slightly longer than the other but he straightened my hips out and made my legs the same length again. He told me it would help my golf game. I didn't believe him but that day, I went straight from his office to catch 9 holes and shot 4 over. Then I played 18 holes and shot 81. I hope he's right.
I cut my index finger on my right hand almost to the bone last summer. This happened just 2 hours before my first of 3 tee times at 3 GREAT courses Destin FL. Went to the local Dr. and was at the course 20 minutes before my tee time.
Broke my left elbow while ice skating once. Happened in February. My elbow was 95% better by the time golf season started (April, for me), but I was guarding it during my swing and using my right arm more. Straightened out my slice. One month later, fully healed and not guarding my left arm anymore, my slice returned. I've since learned how to control the slice without need of fracture.
Then there was the time I was on the 1st tee minutes before out tee time (it was a men's league event), and our 4th hadn't shown up. We wondered if he might be in the clubhouse. I went to check. I ran down the hill from the tee and hurdled the rope separating the hill from the cart path. Or rather, I almost hurdled the rope. Went sprawling onto the asphalt, landing on my forearms, scraping them badly (the asphalt wasn't too kind to my driver's graphite shaft, either). The bleeding stopped a few holes later, right around the time that our 4th showed up.
appendix abscess with open appendicectomy 4 weeks before my golf holiday in Portugal. I don't think I was really supposed to play, but I did anyway. I didn't manage to score less than 130 the whole week!
I was playing in a county junior game once. It was 3 all after the 1sy day, and 2nd day was 3-2 in the singles, so 6-5 total. I was out last against this other lad and he's 1 up on me through 16. He stood on the tee at 17 and said he felt funny, he hit his drive and collapsed, later we found out he was diabetic and had gone into a seasure. (sp)
So he had to give me the game which tied up the scores, and we went on to win the playoff.
I've always felt bad for the lad, if he'd hung on for 2 more holes he'd have won the game for his county and put them through to a national final. Gutted for him.
Best wishes on your tract infection, keep an eye on that.
I've had some MAJOR back spasms, that have locked up my back for 1-2 months, with plenty of massage therapy, chiropractic, and acupuncture therapy. It locks me up to the point where I can't hardly sleep or move, and especially not GOLF.
But - I've been painfree this year, due to plenty of torso-strengthening exercises, lots of chiro/acupuncture work, and weight lifting. I'm starting Yoga, which also helps your flexibility a lot. And..........focusing on "swinging" more, rather than "hitting" the ball too hard.
On my visit to my regular doctor he discovered it was a hernia, or however you spell it, and I had to have an emergency operation to repair it. They also found that I am somewhat likely to contract testicular cancer in the future. It's bad but I'm just lucky I went to the doctor when I did.
I'll spare you guys the details but they said I would need to miss a week a school , but no golf for a month!
It is lucky that you received prompt medical attention, taytaymade. Good luck with the operation, and make sure that afterwards, you go for whatever checkups the doctors want. I'll be thinking of you. Let us know how it goes.
Wow taytaymade, that is terrible. Good luck to you with the recovery and I hope all is well in the future as well. As Jim said, good thing you went to get it checked when you did.
