I'm 6', 165 lbs., and carry my 7 iron 165 yards. The ball pretty much takes one hop and stops, so theres not much roll to acount for - a 7 iron shouldn't roll much unless the greens ar rock hard. My club is a Cleveland 588P and I think it's 36°.
To cover the blade distance question, you might hit the ball farther when you hit it dead in the middle of the sweetspot, but a tiny mishit will drop that distance quite a bit(that's why they're made for low/scratch handicaps). But almost all blade/MB irons come from the manufacturer with weaker lofts than CB/game improvement clubs, so blades actually shouldn't go farther than cavity back clubs when you really think about it.

The "blade distance question" was not a question at all. My blades have stronger lofts than my cavity backs, therefore they carry a bit longer. The cavity backs are about 15 years old and definitely are not lofted as strong as newer ones I have hit-probably about a club difference than King Cobras I hit recently.

The question that was asked was "how does a blade blade make you hit the ball farther?"
If you CBs are 15 years old, and your blades are a newer model, then it makes sense that the blades are stronger lofted. But by todays manufacturer standards, lofts are lower in CBs than MBs. For example, a Titleist 690.MB 7 iron is 36° while an 804.OS 7 iron is 34°. Same with Taylormade - MB 7i: 36°, OS 7i:33°.
I am very new to this and hit the 7 Iron around 150 yards, when I get it straight. 5'6" 145lbs. I also have stiff shafts on all my clubs. I was told, by the local Pro, to get regular flex but would like to continue using these clubs (I already spent too much money on these - plus I do not think my boss {wife} will allow me to get another set.) Should I follow this Pro's advice?
Anyway, I am also wondering if this will be the limit of my abilities since I am not that tall?

Well, Clarke, you've given us very limited insight about your abilities. Like how old are you? What is your handicap ? At 5'6" 145lbs, 150 with a 7 iron is fine if you usually hit it straight. Please some of you equipment gurus here correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a stiffer shaft is better for those with higher clubhead speeds, the slower the clubhead speed the more a more flexible shaft would help you. If you're getting it airborne to your satisfaction and hitting them straight generally, then I would think your shafts are probably fine.
I saw this on another forum, and was pretty surprised at what distances people were quoting (160 up to 220???)....and wanted to get people's input...
Basically, what distance do you hit your 7 iron (carry, no roll)?
(may include specs of club, ht., wt., etc...)
Currently, (in the cold!!) I'm hitting around 140 yds., loft is 36*, standard length and lie...5'7", 135 lbs.
I know that's on the shorter side, what is avg. distance?
My 7 iron is 35 deg and I've been hitting it about 130-135 the last couple of weeks (when it's not raining).
BTW. I'm 6 foot and 175 lbs. I know it's a little short but I think I'm scooping my irons (I hardly take divots these days) and I have avg driver distance (carry around 230-235 these days).

Thank you for your responses and forgive me for sounding so naive about the game. I am 30 and am not able to calculate my handicap yet. I am physically fit and flexible (jog, lift weights and cardio about 4 to 5 times a week.) I am just wondering, with more quality practice, will I be able to hit the ball farther? Will my height limit my yardage? How many pros are 5'6" and drive 300 yards? I just want to know what to expect.
